Transport a car to the USA: Cost?

Has anyone ever sent a car to California? I have a potential buyer for my VW, he wants me to send it to California. Has anyone ever done this before, what kind of cost am I looking at? I will call transport companies next week but if anyone can send me in the right direction I would appreciate it.
