Volkswagen Canada recalls 37,000 vehicles

Just passing along the info as this appears to be a new Recall being issued throughout Canada:

The Montreal Gazette said:
Volkswagen Canada said Wednesday it is recalling 37,000 vehicles because of a potential problem with windshield wiper fluid tanks that could lead to a fire. The recall affects 2007-09 model-year Golf, Jetta, Jetta Sportswagen and Rabbit vehicles and 2006-2010 Beetle and Beetle convertibles.

A plastic tab on the bottom of the fluid tanks can chafe against a fuel line, potentially causing a hole that could lead to a fire, the company said. No fires are known to have occurred. Letters go out to car owners next month, but drivers can call their dealers if they have questions before receiving the letter.

Canadian Tire Corp. said it is voluntarily recalling certain Noma Line Voltage Thermostats as a precaution. They could overheat and emit smoke when the load exceeds the specified maximum. Only products with serial numbers starting with 08 are affected - they were on sale as of September 2008.

The company said customers using these products should call UPM Marketing Inc. at 1-888-468-6876 for more information.

you sure thats not a old one? ive done either a similar one...maybe the exact same thing. the tab can rub on the fuel line next to the filler neck. no big

taken from your article you posted, it's the same problem that vw had 2-3 years ago...

CERTAIN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 2.5L GASOLINE ENGINES MAY HAVE A SMALL PLASTIC TAB LOCATED ON THE WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR THAT MAY CHAFE AGAINST THE UNDERHOOD FUEL SUPPLY LINE.
Consequence:
IF THIS HAPPENS, THE CHAFING HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE A FUEL LEAK OVER TIME. FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.

Remedy:
