News: VW Golf R - MSRP of $39,675 in Canada

Auto123.com: Fans of German engineering and automotive thrills will be happy to know that the Golf R will be landing in Canada next year – and commanding less than $40,000.

Instead of using a six-cylinder engine typical for this kind of model, VW went the day of a 2.0-litre, turbo 4-pot quite similar to the one powering the Audi TTS.

Coupled with an all-wheel drive, it deploys 266 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque and propels the machine from 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds when equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission. With the DSG autobox, the 0-100 dash is a tad quicker at 5.5 seconds.

Top speed is electronically limited at 250 km/h.

According to the information we received, between 500 and 600 Golf Rs will be made available to Canadian consumers, likely all equipped with the manual transmission.

Deliveries will start in 2012 with an MSRP of $39,675.

Au moins avec la Golf R, tu en aura pas a tout les coins de rue. À mon avis un plus beau look qu'un sti, surtout plus raffiné.
Un intérieur digne d'une vrai allemande et non une intérieure de plastique. En plus de tout ça, tu ne sautera pas de moteur.

Dommage qu'ils ont pas pu augmenter la puissance plus que 6 chevaux par rapport a la Golf R 2008...Avec un moteur turbo ca n'aurait pas ete trop complique d'augmenter le boost pour froler les 300 chevaux...

99% of buyers are going to chip their Golf R's and have 340 crank HP. The problem is VW can't release it with that much power and still offer a warranty, a K04 with that much boost will kill the longevity of the turbo. They could've slapped on a bigger turbo like a GT28RS at low boost, which could reliabliy put down 300hp, but the low end power would suck and the whole planet would complain.

By putting a K04 turbo with 265hp, they offer the tunability of having big HP without having to cover their asses with warranty issues.
