Infos: Before buying a used car / Avant d'acheter un vehicule usagé

(sorry for my non perfect english):p

The purchase of a vehicle of a private seller is not protected by the Law on the consumer protection. If, after the purchase, you learn that the car was stolen or that it has hidden defects, there remains only the recourse under the terms of the common right, those will not enable you to obtain a right compensation (in general).

Before buying, ensuring you that:

1) the vehicle is not declared stolen. The Information center of the Canadian police force makes it possible to carry out by Internet a search for stolen vehicles.

2) Vérify that the car has been paid in full or if it has put as a “deposit” for another loan Regulation respecting the register of personal and movable real rights (RDPRM), you can
check if the car were paid in entirety or if it were not given in guarantee

In addition to this research, a meticulous inspection of the vehicle is impose. After having you examined the coveted car, inspect it by a mechanic (not the seller mechanics). Even if this operation requires expenses of your share, it is about an expenditure which could save much money to you if ever the vehicle comprises defects
