Don't use premium gas if your car isn't rated for it.

un essence avec 100 d'IO et qui explose sans etre compressé a son maximum va-t-il généré autan de force qu'un essence d'IO de 91 poussé a la limite ?

My friend's dad had a 2000 accord, and his buddy has a 2000 accord aswell. Both not v6. One put supreme from the begining and the other has only put regular. When the guy with regular drove the other accord he said it felt so much newer and better:he could feel the difference". They think its because of the supreme gas, is this dum or what??

OBD2 adjust the timing accordingly to detonation. So the more octane you put, the more aggressive the timing can be set at before pinging.

On cars that doesn't have a knock sensor however, the ecu won't be able to adjust the timing so just put the gas that is recommended.

i realy think it works only one way. like the knock sensor will retard ignition if it detect a knock (obviously) but it wont set the timing more agressively if it doesnt, the maps do not change.

I have been saying this for a while now... no one ever listens to me.

i explained it to a few people, usually just simplify it by saying you should use the lowest octane you can get away with (without having to back off timing) so that it can burn more efficiently, as higher octanes are harder to burn.

I'm pretty sure you're right

if your car require 91 and you put 89, if your ECU is able to play within the timing values of the base map, then it won't ping but the car won't run at its best.

Fifth Gear made a test with various type of vehicles (Peugoet 206, VW GTI 2.0T and WRX STI) and different octane gas. There was no power loss with the highest octane gas on the 206 however there was a HP increase on the VW and the STI compared to the lower octane gas.

But I agree, use the lowest octane rated gas your car can take. As you can see the 206 didn't gain anything with the higher octane gas.

Do you have a link to that review? From what I can see, turbo car gained something while NA didn't...

JAI 225 000 km sur mon vieux ford escort 8v et ya toujours roulé au 94...

jimagine que je jette mon cash par les fenetres... mais... yen a pas des tonnes des ford a ce millage la non plus. :)

Great post Daso... I always did think putting in 93octane once in a while would be benefitial and clean the car abit...
Guess I was wrong

I dont know, I have a 2006 saturn ion and they ask to put premium gas in it but I have felt a difference between reg and 91+ octane what do you guys think?

yes they say to put premium gas but its a 2.4 L !!

whats the difference with the fact its a 2.4L or anything else ?

do as you want if you have that attitude, why bother asking on the internet. but if something goes wrong, and the warranty is void because you didnt use premium, dont come back complaining.

moi je mets tjrs du 94 dans mon rabbit.
dans mon mk4 je mettais du 94 au debut, le monde disais ca vaut pas la peine blabla pis quand je le feedais au 87 il cognait en sale. 94 ftw

thats probably becuase you didnt reset your ECU... it was probably adjusted to run on the 94 by retarding the timing like crazy, and then when you put in 87 it had trouble adjusting

if my engine (vr6) OBD1 & chipped... what type of gas should i use? i always used 94.... help me lol

I want to allways use premium I just find it funny that they ask for it beeing such a small engine thats all and as for the warrenty you can void it by using different gas?
