Hi ,
I looking to buy a 240 sx 95 to some guy i know ( near my house ). My only problem is, its an automatic. Is it possible to change it into a manual ? Possibly, but at what cost ? Could i use the same motor but without the transmission ?

Thx for all ur help in advance.

BTW,
I dont know jack about Nissan ( Thats why i ask u guys )
I really need to get my questions answered
I dont like to be called a Rice Kid because i drive a Civic
I love Nissan's but hate the haters that thinks that im dumb ecause im asking question.

yes a transmission swap is possible, i bet its pretty expensiveWithout being a nissan transmission expert, tranny swaps for an mx6(i know it aint the same thing) costs about 2000$.save some money for a sr20det manual(japanese engine)

FunkCaptain:
What would a SR20DET cost ? ( approx. )
Can i find that motor easily or its really hard to find ?

NiGhTRiDeR_Si:
Get that guy in here ...

Actually i dont really want to change the engine for now. I just want that baby to have a manual transmission thats all ( for the moment ).
If it turns out it would be the same price of a new motor well .....

Well a full SR20 engine swap can cost you around $6000-$8000.

A SR20DET swap could be done for cheaper... depends on your budget/setup.

Engine: $1500
Swap: $2000
Used intercooler/BOV + new pipes: $800
2.5" Exhaust: $600
MAF/igniter: 200

Total: $5100

Be prepared to pay about $1000 for parts/labor for the 5 speed conversion and this doesn't include the transmission. I have a spare 5-speed tranny from a SR20DET, give me $600 and it's yours! A KA24DE tranny goes for about the same price.

Good lord, there is like 10 posts of this on this page. As for the tranny swap. most of the shit can be found on USDM cars, go find yourself a junkyard twin cam manual trannied engine... so anything over 90 (thats 91 and up for the smart asses here) you will need the petals, the linkage etc... then for the center console you might have to buy a new one from nissan, unlessy ou can find a junked 95 and up. You will need a manual ECU, I believe the auto works.. but its just no an inteligent thing to do. As for the price on an sr swap install... if you don't want to do it right, then don't bother doing it till you have the money. Period. that 5100$ estimate... that is neglecting a lot of things on a swap, like the fact the clutches are dead 9 times on 10, and many other things that I won't even get into. Do you research... on this forum alone I have answered this 10 times... thats why you can search.

To swap from Auto to Manual, you need this:

5 speed trany + clutch & flywheel
Drive shaft (it's longer on the manual trany)
Clutch slave cylinder
Pedal kit, clutch , brake, gaz
8wire have to be rewired for the backup lamp, neutral, start, speed sensor to work properly.

If you buy a SR20DET..you'll get the trany & flywheel (and clutch...but in unknow condition)

The ECU will work fine on a manual car, no need to swap it, just take off the auto trany ECU (it's a separate ECU for the trany) it sit where the clutch pedal bolt-on.

I am truly humbled... thanks for the much more complete answer, than my smart ass was willing to provide... we must mmet up and swap knowledge once more sensai. lol.

Add...
Clutch master cylinder with resevoir
Hydraulic lines
Crossmember for the 5 speed tranny
Lower shift boot and metal plate
Upper Shift boot
Pilot bearing for the 5 speed tranny
