What I will never understand is WHY oh WHY can't people f.ucking learn french?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Are people this f.ucking lazy or this f.ucking stupid?

Kinda like the idiot on this very forum that was "bragging" about his dad that has been living here for 35 years and still can't speak french. Pathetic!!!!

PS: I don't really care that Koivu can't or won't speak french. I just find it pathetic and disrespectful.

*blah* If it wasnt for people like you Quebec would be in a better social and economical state
:uke: on you

Lot's of foreign specialists are working in Finland now and can't say anything in Finnish beyond "hello" and "thank you". In companies like Nokia and others English is the language of business. Nobody minds and just keeps working and counting the money after. Somehow they don't feel threatened and continue happily speaking Finnish at home and in a social setting. It would be difficult to find a person under 35 in Finland who can't communicate in English.
BTW all the non Finnish movies in Finland are subtitles instead of dubbed. The population is literate enough to be able to read the subtitles quickly enough and appreciate the original soundtrack. Quebec is a slightly bigger market for movies so the costs of dubbing vs. subtitles are not the issue. Refusal to hear other languages and lack of literacy are what prevents subtitles in mass market movies.

And Saku is playing in the NHL. Not the Quebec Junior Hockey league. All the other teams are in an anglophone environment. Next people will start bitching that there are not enough francophone offensive linemen on the Allouettes.
My company operates in English and Russian. Our business covers all of North America. If we insist on French we'd get nothing done and join the welfare rolls. Is that good for Quebec?

Saku's job is to play hockey and lead the team. From what I have seen so far he is doing those things very well and with class and dignity that Guy Bertrand will never ever be able to comprehend.

lol a peut bin chialer Pauline Marois esti. Caliss de grosse sacrament de vache elle sait même pas dire un esti d'mot en anglais.

Koivu speaks french, his wife is french and he speaks french to the sick kids when he visits them in the hospital...

he just doesnt speak french to the media....

whose disrespectful now?

whats pathetic is we pay these politicians to bitch and whine

koivu speaks french? I don't think so... he knows some words but that's it..he speak french like I speak arabic

Tu as pris les mots de ma bouche.

Je suis sur que la grosse vache n'est meme pas capable de baragouiner une phrase complete en anglais comme du monde.

uh yeah he does.

il sait pas la difference entre le feminin des mots ou le masculin..ses phrases sont toutes fockées, il traduit des mots anglophone en francophone juste en changeant son accent, bla bla bla...haha si lui est bilingue, je parle au moins 7 langues

so if you have to go to china for a job will someone call you dumb because you are not fluent in chinese? The guy isn't even english, he's a hockey player not a phd. If he can communicate with his team who gives a shit.

there's gotta be a captain in this league that barely speaks english i'm sure of it. Koivu's english isn't even amazing neither, what makes you think it should be so easy for him to learn yet another language.

If I move to China and can't speak Chinese after living and working there for 10 years. I'd expect someone to give be a kick in the ass and tell me to wake the **** up.

But that's just me.

Except this is Quebec and more specifically Montreal. One can function just fine without knowing French here. Just because people like you stomp your feet in hissy fits doesn't stop Montreal from being a bilingual city. It was like that before and it will continue unless you destroy it.

Saku is not only playing in the NHL, he's the captain of the Montreal Canadiens, it is more than a job in whatever company you're working for. The Quebec people treat the captain of the Montreal Canadiens like a prime minister, which is what the immigrants or any other person who has absolutely no knowledge of Quebec history don't seem to grasp. Are Richard, Beliveau, Butch Bouchard, etc. only considered hockey players ? No, they are considered social icons, much like a star playing for the AC Milan in Italy who will get torn apart by the local media and population if he refuses to use Italian.

And no one will complain about the Alouettes because it is a completely boring and shitty sport and league, it's a team that has already left 20 years ago and will leave within ten years without anyone complaining.

i dont understand , nobody complainmed against YI JIANLIN and YAO MING when they speak chinese during their interviews ?? ****en ridiculous, leave koivu alone !!!!! Why dont they talk about his charity events , and all the good things he does to the community hein ? ****EN RETARDSS

haha pauline marois' young son can't even speak english. I worked with him a few years back in a customer service envireonment and he refused to speak english.

So it's more important for people in Quebec to have a French speaking captain of the Canadiens than winning the Stanley Cup?
Do you think there would be same crap said about Saku if the Habs won the Cup recently under his captainship?
Note, I don't have any idea if Saku Koivu is the best possible captain for the Canadiens in hockey terms. Is he good or not as captain of the team is a separate debate from does he or doesn't he speak French.

What a waste of time, what a bunch of stupid comments.
He in no way, shape or form should have to speak french.
90% of the french population will understand what he is saying, so who gives a shit.

He is there to lead a HOCKEY team and not the Province of Quebec. Its an NHL team that is privately owned by George Gillette, he can do and demand what he wants with his players, and a french speaking captian is clearly not on the top of his list.

I couldnt careless if our captain was 100% french and didnt speak a word of English. As long as he can play and score goals thats all I care about.

Some people just need to grow up and stop making this damn province more of a hell whole political scene than it already is.

If someone doesn't like the fact that the captain of the Canadiens doesn't speak French so much they should stop buying tickets and watching the games on TV. I bet the games will continue to be sold out.

Correct me if im wrong , but Koivu did not refuse , he tried and people blasted him . The man is trying.
