If anyone could tell me if its hard to fit a 3.4L from a 88 535 in a 80's 3 series? or if it even fits at all.. cuz we have a 3.4 laying around at my school and my teachers said i could take it if i want. i just gotta find all the wiring, Comp., tranny, and well the car.. so im just wondering if its gonna be worth it or no?

Also wut cars it would fit in if any.

It is a very common swap. Google "e30" and "M30" and you will see a lot of such transplants. This was a often done before the M50 was available. Engine mounts are readily available, while wiring is pretty easy.

alright thanx ill look into it. I also just have a couple of questions. i asked my teacher what car the motor came from he said a 88 535 so I tried to look on google, and i understood that 88's were called E34's with the 535i being a m30.

But then i seen this sitehttp://www.rmeuropean.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=11 and i saw that it said:

E28 5 Series 82-88
E34 5 Series 89-96
