I own an highly moded sti and its been a great car, fun to drive. The initial build if done right will cost you alot of money since there's very little reputable and usually expensive shop that work on sti. If something on the car break, replace it with aftermarket parts and use high quality stuff.

If you leave the car mostly stock you wont have big problem, between 1500-2000$ a year on maintenance should be the right number. But on the other hand if you have an high hp sti with big turbo you will need to have a deep wallet to maintain the car in good condition. If you keep her in good condition and do the needed maitenance you will enjoy the car with very little money. If you wait for things to break it will cost you in the long run. Id sujest beign proactive
