See what the problem is in my eyes are bad drivers, not speed. There are countless motorsport races a year and yet the death toll is probably less for all of North America than just Montreal per year. So you can't say it's speed.
However on the flip side speed only make a bad driver worse. Less time to react, higher speed of impact. The solution is not speeding tickets it's education, re-education and taking people off the road.
I would say half the people on the road today shouldn't be driving. The lack the confidence, ability or responsibility to be on our roads.
The SAAQ hands out Class 5 licences like they were prizes in Cracker Jack pakages. To add to that they don't check up on people, so things only go downhill from there.
To add to that i would love to see how many motorcycle accidents came from those who got their licence before 1978 (i think). Before then if you got your 5 you automatically got your 6A. So how can you compare statistic that include older people with no motorcycle training to the younger generation who is now properly trained with 9 hours of theory and 22 hours + of lessons.
Speed doesn't kill people......Bad drivers do.
And so there's no confusion my definition of a bad driver is as follows,
Bad Driver: Someone who;
1) Lacks the confidence necessary to operate their vehicle properly. i.e. Someone who drives way to slow, gets overly exited about having traffic around them.
2) Lacks the ability necessary to operate their vehicle properly. i.e. Can't merge fluidly, can't take turn properly but also include senses(poor eyesight, hearing). This blame falls most on the SAAQ for allowing such a driver to pass the test.
3) Lacks the responsability necessary to operate their vehicle properly. i.e. Drives to fast FOR THE CONDITIONS, cuts people off, performs illegal/dangerous manuveurs to get ahead of traffic......
