Anyone work in a bar or a restaurant with a bar??

I've sent a lot of applications to places advertised on craigslist and kijiji, but no previous work means no dice.

I just graduated from the Master School of Bartending and I'm really good, I just need to get that first job to prove myself!

Anyone can help?
 
I think bartending is one of those jobs where you need to have a connection to get a job at a good spot. Correct me if I'm wrong.
 
I don't need a good spot right now, I need any spot! I just need to get my foot in the door of the industry.
 
You don't NEED a good connection, but it's definitely a great help just like in any field, more likely so than a lot of others though.

Get a good picture of yourself, because you're a male it's harder to get a bartending job.. as Im sure you already know. If you haven't figured it out yet they ask for a picture because they don't only judge you on your experience but strongly on your looks as well. They don't want to hire an ugly/scrawny bartender, and they don't want to hire steroids McGee either. So pick a picture that makes you look like you can pull off the part.

..goodluck with the casino if you have 0 experience and aren't a model at the same time. Try the airport, they take without exp as long as you've completed the course... and honestly if you've "tried" craigslist this means you've applied to the Forum Sports Bar, if you can't get in there then Im sorry but you fail.
 
I sent them an e-mail, but I never heard back. I assume they filled the position. lol I'll go see them in person if I can't find anything else.

As for the airport, I know the girl who is hiring for that and she told me she'd get me a job at the Houston's that's suppose to open, but it won't open for another like 2-3 months!

I think I'll just walk down every street downtown and just go into every bar. lol
 
There's other positions other than Houston's at the airport.. from the way a friend of mine explained it (he worked there for quite a bit of time) is that each place does it's own hiring so walk in and start applying ;)

Walking into every bar is not a bad idea however you should try to talk to the manager it'll help you get your C.V. on top of the list, or near. Most places have stacks of C.V.'s they go through when they look for somebody so just handing it out to 100 places wont do as much good as going into 2-3 places and impressing the bar manager.
 
True about talking to the manager. Dundee's was looking for a bartender so I went there during the hours they said in the ad and the hostess is like "no more interviews, sorry" so I left my CV, but I know they won't call since I have no experience. I know I could get a job if I talked to a manager, but not if they don't meet me because my CV is unimpressive in this field.

As for the airport, HMS Host owns every restaurant in the whole place, they do the hiring for all the places. Right now there are a few bars, but they don;t need anyone. The new Houston's is the only place that will need new bar staff. (Unless bartenders from other airport restaurant go to Houston's, then their jobs become available.
 
Yes HMS Host is the company they all work for, however each restaurant has it's own office with it's own management... from what I'm told.

I guess they filled my friends position pretty quick lol. You can always try restaurant's in stripmall's/random locations near your house. Those are usually a great place to start and Managers are usually there.

I find people don't use much common sense when looking for a job... Anyways, goodluck with your search.

Ta juste a dire que tu as travailler dans des bars comme en floride ou whatever...il commencerons pas a appeller la bas pour demander des infos , et tu vas pouvoir commencer a travailler...
Ce n est pas tres honettes mais en periode economique difficile comme maintenant on s en calisse pas mal .
