Why do people buy Domestic?

This is a serious question open to discussion amongst all of you. And I am not talking iconic sports cars like Corvette, Mustang, Camaro... Rather mid-range 4-door sedans bought and used by an average Joe for daily driving. In my mind, people buy GM because they haven't shopped for anything else... :dunno:

Why Not?

I'm not sure I see why you are questioning yourself so much? I mean it's not like we are in the year 2000 and asking why people are buying Daewoo. It's GM for god's sake and their cars are getting better then ever.

I owner both Japanese and Domestic.. and I've owned more Japanese then domestic however Domestic manufacturer's offer just as many great cars.. and some are even more fun to drive then plane Jane Toyota’s.

Some people prefer the look, some people prefer the feel, some have better reliability then others... I don't see why domestic makes a difference on those aspects since they have the power to build good cars and nice cars too.

I'm with the OP on this one. I couldn't see myself pissing money away on a vehicle of inferior quality unless I had employee pricing or something. And yes they are of inferior fit and finish and the wear and tear factor is eadilly noticable on all US models. Don't tell me they are better int he last few years because they aren't. They are all the same.

I'm sure you've owned a few recent GM's, Fords or Dodge's to base your opinion on .. and you're not just referring to internet reviews by Broody of hard plastic interiors?

You have to keep in mind that not every type of car is for everyone and that’s fine. If you don't like domestic and don’t ever want to be seen in one that’s your choice but it doesn't mean it's right to say they are crap when they aren’t and you have nothing to back that up with. They can be just as good as any other cars. Every manufacturer has weaker models, they all made a few mistakes but in the long run they all offer some very decent models.

I for myself could never drive an European car. Does this mean they suck? No, not at all. I just never really digged the feeling the few times I've been in them and I'm not one for their styling queues. This doesn't make them shitty or make me wonder why people buy them.

Avez-vous vu la Focus à 30000$ au salon de l'auto!?!? Effectivement, Ford fond de belles autos par les temps qui courent. Mais 30000 pour une Focus?

Most people i know that drive Domestic cars that arent "iconic" or "sports cars" bought them because of the price.

My dad for example, wanted a used not-too-old minivan, i told him to get an EuroVan.
He looked at it and was pleased with all the options and that he could have it standart.
But when he looked at the price he ended up buying a caravan 5 years newer for the quarter of the price.

Most people don't care about quality, performance, etc.

Most people only want good prices, and since american car salesmen are the worst crooks ever, people always think they get the better deal with domestic.
