A Kitchener father is angry at police after he was arrested at his child's school and later strip-searched at the police station, all because his 4-year-old daughter drew a picture of a gun in class.

"I'm picking up my kids and then, next thing you know, I'm locked up," Jessie Sansone, 26, said of his ordeal on Wednesday. "I was in shock. This is completely insane."

The school principal, police and child welfare officials, however, all stand by their actions. They say they had to investigate to determine whether there was a gun in Sansone's house that children had access to.

"From a public safety point of view, any child drawing a picture of guns and saying there's guns in a home would warrant some further conversation with the parents and child," said Alison Scott, executive director of Family and Children's Services.

Waterloo Regional Police Insp. Kevin Thaler said there was a complaint from Forest Hills Public School that "a firearm was in a residence and children had access to it. We had every concern, based on this information, that children were in danger."

Sansone said he went to pick up his three children on Wednesday and was summoned to the principal's office, where three police officers were waiting. They said he was being charged with possession of a firearm.

He was escorted from the school, handcuffed and put in a cruiser. At the same time, other officers went to his home, where his wife and 15-month-old child were waiting for him.

They made his wife come to the police station while the other three children were taken to Family and Children's Services to be interviewed.

At the police station, Sansone was forced to remove his clothes for a full strip search.

Several hours later, a detective apologized and said he was being released with no charges, Sansone said.

The detective told him his daughter Neaveh had drawn a picture of a man holding a gun. When a teacher asked her who the man was, the girl replied, "That's my daddy's. He uses it to shoot bad guys and monsters."

After he was released, Sansone was asked to sign a paper authorizing a search of his home. He signed, even though he didn't have to, he said.

The school principal, Steve Zack, said a staff member called child welfare officials because the law requires them to report anything involving the safety or neglect of a child.

I love the Star newspaper, liberal piece of crap!

Its funny how they didn't mention in the article that the gun they found was a transparent airsoft like those you can buy at canadian tire

This is exactly why they are pushing all those get involved in school campaigns. You bet in the next months with the Quebec government (yes us too) pushing programs for kids to tell about their parents behavior, you'll have all kinds of people have to go through this.

Seriously, I've told my lady, Home schooling or no kids.

In the news broadcast, they said: "[...]Charged with owning a gun..."

Owning a gun is not illegal, so how exactly was he charged with anything? There seems to be something unclear in this story.

If you don't have a gun license it's illegal to have possession of a firearm. We don't have a second amendment here.

You're doing the best thing. It's a tall order however. Very few women are capable of doing it.

The political education the schools brainwash the kids with is truly astonishingly destructive. Multicultural feminist bedwetting marxist bullshit. Never mind their having to associate with the kids of sociopaths druggies and double digit iq retards.

Homeschooling is the only viable option. Coupled with no tv or print media penetration your kids will have a fighting chance.

But again it takes a good woman and most will not make the grade

^So if someone draws something here, say I draw a rocket, should the cops investigate and invade my privacy to make sure I don't have a rocket?

My father use to teach me math and writing when I was a child. He forced me to read aristotle, plato, socrates etc.. He was so weary of the public school system. Now I know why.

I'm going to end up marrying my present gf and we've agreed, even though she has a BioEngineering and Biomedical degree, she's raising my kids.

I don't want to have a huge home and 3 cars etc.. I don't need that stuff, having a smart, non-poisoned kids is so much more important.

Wow, cowboys again!

A little girl basically told her teacher that her dad had a gun and shoots people with it.

She (the teacher) contacted authorities who checked if he had a RPAL (restricted firearm license) and he probably didn't have one. Since its illegal to own a hand gun without a RPAL in Canada, they investigated.

Although I will agree that they went too far with the investigation should've never gone that far.

Edit hadn't watched the vid:

They definitely went overboard with this plus possible search without a warrant that's completely wrong.
