OFFICIAL- getting into the sport- but too lazy to read all the threads

le probe qui avait a vendre preparé pour la track ici, il est tu vendu? ca lui ferait un mechant bon track car pour moins cher qu un civic et un swap

yea mine was a 93! beige with beige interior.. Made an excellent sleeper.. lol 3k for that thing? I paid 500$ for my Protege already swapped, the previous owner parked the car because it didn't hold idle and would stall. I knew what the problem was (torn wires on the air flow meter) fixed it in his driveway and took the car home.

That's a really nice shot... There are really rare now by the looks of it, I guess most rusted to shit. But I would shoot for one if I found a reasonably clean one just because of nostalgia haha.

Broody, my mom used to own an echo and when it is stock, it is anything but fun to drive with the suspension that rolls like there is no tomorrow and the way the steering wheel, the dash and the shifter are placed with respect to the driver seat... Not the best combination in my view. Only things I liked about it were the revvy engine and when the car is completely empty - feeling light.

I only drive a 2005 hatchback, base model without power steering. It's the last driver's car imo.

There is another pretty good choice :

The Honda E36 ... Ummm I. Mean the Honda 328is....
Sorry hard to type on this Ipad thingy......One more time

BMW : oops..sorry..Sheesh....

THE Honda Prelude SH ( think that means super handling)

The Ford Escort and Mercury Tracer are the same car... You can always get one from the south for CHEAP!

Dave, the e36 is an obvious choice if there was no constraint on the financial front...(university...) and I want one so much... The 328 i used to have was a rotten shitbox with a torn subframe ... But the crisp feeling of your car from the time i had a roll in it at Julip is still something i remember ... Who knows maybe ill squeeze out some more priority towards this business and find myself a clean one :)

Thanx for the compliment!
When you will be at ASE give a break to your car and give her a go with an instructor in the Red run group.
She's a lotta fun and you will be grinning all the time :D

Clean is the way to go!
And better to find one prepared.

See u at ASE !

Topgear uses the european ford focus.

I would opt for an e36 WAY before any civic

..why!>?

I read the same crap on Subaru club.
Proud..IGNORANCE. :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
I need to tell myself; "thats why they call it a club..".

Don't knock the Honda Civic.
actually..dont knock anything that has 4 decent tires, and is in good mechanical order! :)

Pay attention to what Black VW, Krash, and BlaKk ITR share!
one step at a time!

from here to May, I suggest you do/get a general inspection done on your car; inspect ball joints, bearings, tierods etc.. flush+fill brake fluid with BF600/ate blue. get an alignment. ask questions.
^this is to be added to/modified by old goats with experience.

come on time with an open mind. be ready to learn, be ready to work!
..you will love eeeeeeeit *tu**tu*

Commencer en lapping

Salut!

Hi guys,

first things first i need to get a set of tires
i checked with tire rack for the r-s3 everyone is faming, in 225/45/15 ( thers no 205/50/15)= its 672$delivered to my door with all the shipping and ups charges... backorder till mid may. and thats about my budget for tires.
(Alex said about 750$ from the top of his head, if i get them from perry auto)

the thing is i know how much a wider heawier tire/ wheel slows down my car and i always ran 195-205 wide tires. more than that is just too much parasitic drag.
the car is very light and not powerful ~1800 lbs and maybe a 100hp its about as quick as most stock 2.0l cars or around 140-150hp, that i tested against /beat.

i read plenty of rewievs about different tires ppl use on the track but my limitation is budget, what good tires i can get for 700$ max in 205/50/15 or similar ? i still need to go see Carl about this just didnt have time this week.

the other thing is i want to do a day long event sometime next month as a birthday gift to my self and get some good practice, besides the 20min sessions on mondays. what would i be allowed to do, time attack ??

thank you,

Nazar

With a price of 750 at Perry, and 672 at TR, you should go with Perry. You will need to add taxes also to you bill. At the end, if you have a saving less than 50$, it don't make sense to buy it at TR. I am buying a lot of parts from US for my car (not a popular car here), and it is all a time more expensive than expected.

Not easy to do long event. Typically, it is differents runs groups, and because of that, the best is to lap 25 minutes per hour, which is quite a lot anyway for all day long. Tracktime wise, I am not sure that Time attack is the best.

For your question in regards of gain versus lost time with heavier tire... are you looking to fight the track record??? In theory, sticker tires will reduce the speed in straight, but will be faster on curve... good or bad??? Don't focus too much on that. With 100HP, try to have fun tires, not too grippy,

the r-s3 are ~104$ per tires than about 120-130$ for the shipping for 4 and again about the same for UPS fees. i dont think thers any more taxes on top of that when i get parts from the US the only extra i have to pay is the UPS fees unless its different for tires?

i did the AISA school a while back one sunday it took the whole day... thats what i would like to do again, not the whole day on the track but 20 mins on then off...

i must admit it was tough keeping it on the track on a rainy day, it had mad understeer ( proxes FZ4 suck i guess ). for the last two runs i was tired and wasnt feeling it anymore.

i looked thru a catlog at work in 205/50/15 that would be not bad thers
the KU31 at ~130 per tire 320 treadwear
dunlop DZ101 at ~118$/ tire 300 treadwear
Potenza RE-11 171$/ tire 180 treadwear these would be nice but thats about 790$ with the taxes, more expensive than the r-s3 and with a higher threadwear. maybe i should just go for the r-s3 225 wide and call it a day ?
i remembe reading somewhere ( almost certain it was Carls post ) that a civic with 225 tires is better than with 205 tires

When it comes to slicks and high speed tracks, yes tire drag is important. But most of the time a wider tire is a better tire and will make you go faster. Especially street tires which don't need to warm up that much.

Also when buying tires, try to ship them to http://www.freeportforwarding.com/index.htm. I saved over 50$ per tire doing this, brokerage is cheaper, shipping is cheaper. Takes 2 hours of your day time if you leave mid-day and if you can manage it, mount them in the states and drive them in.
