So I went shooting today with my guns. First time out. Had a hell of a time yesterday removing the cosmoline from my SKS, but i'm very happy with the job I did, most of it is gone. In the process, I learned how to take apart the rifle and now, it really feels like MY rife.... strange how that works.
Anyway, brought a shitpile of ammunition with me, all surplus corrosive crap.
Started firing and holy fuck does it ever smell horrible. Almost a sulfur smell. Unless my buddy was timing his farts with the gun firing, i can't see it being anything else.
Cordite doesn't smell particularly good but not too bad either but these surplus rounds are something else.
Is this typical of all military rounds? What I am using is 1986 production.
SKS is great fun by the way. A damn shame about the 5-round mag limit.
