New project in mind - suggestions welcome

So i decided to finally keep my ubber clean mk3...
Heres the deal: my engine bearings are done, so I'm driving it until it runs. My plan is to put it in the garage for winter and probably will be looking to make a vr6 swap for next summer. In your experience, how much would a vr6 go for? Used and new? How much for a swap and should I get an original vr6 from mk3 or would one from mk4 fit in my mk3? (Engine and tranny)

Im making a classic Golf with a VR - for summer/weekend car. Going to get a stable job and keep this as a toy, and maybe a track car who knows ;-)
