As a sign that Lexus aims to get aggressive with its third-generation IS sports sedan, the automaker has announced a new concept car that previews the styling of that model ahead of a planned debut at the Paris Motor Show.

Called the LF-CC Concept, it features the latest version of the brand’s L-finesse design language and a massive spindle grille, taking overall cues from the wild LF-LC and adapting them to a more realistic package. In a statement the automaker says the car is a look not just at the next generation IS models, but also at a new coupe for the brand – something Lexus desperately needs to compete with the likes of the Mercedes C-Class and BMW 3 Series.

Styling puts the focus on the rear-wheels with this RWD model equipped with an “all-new” 2.5-liter 4-cylinder hybrid powertrain using both direct-injection and the Atkinsn cycle to maximize power and efficiency. The new engine will find its way into production soon.

As for the interior, it includes an upper Display Zone and lower Operate Zone. Putting the focus on the driver Lexus says the car will get a new shift lever with a low seating position, careful positioning of the pedals and a wide sports steering wheel.

Together, the LF-CC, “reinforces the company’s commitment to creating more engaging cars that are attractively styled, deliver a better driving experience and harness the potential of advanced technologies.”
