in my own home network, i would like to specifically reduce internet speed of certain computers/users to lets say 56k. hogging to much resources, good enough with 56k.
is there any way to do this? i went through the router, did not find much, anyone have any ideas?

Can be done easily if your router is dd-wrt compatible.
Basically you change your firmware to the dd-wrt custom one and you can do almost anything with your router. dd-wrt.com

supposedly you can with dd-wrt, however I tried it the other week and everything slowed down to a crawl, however the chances are pretty high that I did something wrong. But since it took 15 minutes to get back into the router I said fuck it, and didn't try any more fooling once I got it back to normal. It IS supposed to be possible though.

My router allow me to do that and was really usefull when I had a roomate which was d/l porn and whatnot 24/7. Cut him to about 100k/s, oh boy was that funny seeing him reboot/format thinking his pc was at fault :D

That's downright evil

if your router is at least half decent, it should have QoS (quality of service) with that you can set the priority to each computer.

Just give them to one of our users here at work, they'll slow down by themselves even though when asked, they all say: "I didn't install anything on the computer."

Mon Asus RT-N66U le fait, en fait meme les modeles plus petit de Asus le font. Achete toi un bon routeur ou un routeur compatible avec DD-WRT et c'est hyper facile.
