Locking rear wheel doesn't count because if the chain pops, you're brakeless. You need an actual brake to be legal.
I'd like to keep my fixie as a summer ride (although it is fun in winter) however, I am looking for a coaster brake wheel for my winter beater. Can someone point me in the right direction? I'm looking for used and cheap (so I wouldn't worry about the bike being stolen). Thanks
So all of the cruiser bikes with coaster brake are illegal as well? That seems impossible to me.
Depends on what is ''cheap'' for you, but any shop that have damour bicycle as distributor could order the hub+rim an make it build by them for around 50$.

What an awesome thread! I have an old Peugeot bike..can anyone tell me more about it? (I don't know shit about bikes)
It wont go into some of the higher gears..I was thinking of converting it into a single gear.
I want to start biking this summer..
Is this a good bike to start with? weighs 30 lbs as is, switching to a fixed gear would shed some weight too..
