... a new door lock on my own?
I know there are quite a few investment property owners on the board, and a bunch of tenants so I thought this would be a good place to ask.
The situation: My roommate and I came home sloshed as fuck and snapped one of our keys in our front door lock. We actually end up removing the broken key after 20 to 30 cuts to our hands but only to realize that the lock no longer works properly (IE cannot fit key all the way in, rendering the lock useless).
We called our landlord the next day to let him know that we needed a new lock, because they're kind of useful and stuff. Thing is, our landlord is this millionaire stud who's on vacation 300 days a year and often never bothers calling back (which is actually pretty chill for a lot of other things). So, not wanting to wait for him to come back from the yacht club in a month, I was thinking I'd just go out and buy a new lock, replace it myself and just deduct it from next month's rent.
Fair enough?
Edit/Note: It's not one of those serial numbered keys that you need a signed letter to get copied, just a regular everyday key.
PS: The drunkness is just a fun fact, we've had issues with the lock since day 1. (You know the kind of lock that only works if you wiggle the key diagonally using your left hand with your back facing the door? Yeah, that's our lock)
