OFFICIAL Quebec-Montreal dash camera thread ! * Insert video *

How visible is it from the outside? I like mine because it's slim, black and you can barely tell that it's there when you walk by, but the video quality is shit (25$).

that's the down side. it's very visible. It's very similar to a go pro in shape and size

Somebody need to invent a simple push button flip up mount so you can hide your cam when parked without removing it.

Wedge cams are fairly stealth. But I think manufacturers should start including the option to have a built in Cam from the factory.

"EVENT DATA
RECORDER (EDR)
This vehicle is equipped with an event
data recorder (EDR).
The main purpose of an EDR is to
record, in certain crash or near
crash-like situations, such as an air bag
deployment or hitting a road obstacle,
data that will assist in understanding
how a vehicle’s systems performed.
The EDR is designed to record data
related to vehicle dynamics and safety
systems for a short period of time,
typically 30 seconds or less.
The EDR in this vehicle is designed to
record such data as:
How various systems in your vehicle
were operating.
Whether or not the driver and
passenger safety belts were
buckled/fastened.
How far (if at all) the driver was
pushing the accelerator and/or brake
pedal.

How fast the vehicle was traveling.
This data can help provide a better
understanding of the circumstances in
which crashes and injuries occur.

144 SAFETY
Note:
EDR data are recorded by your
vehicle only if a non-trivial crash or near
crash-like situation occurs; no data are
recorded by the EDR under normal
driving conditions and no personal
data (e.g., name, gender, age, and
crash location) are recorded. However,
other parties, such as law
enforcement, could combine the EDR
data with the type of personally
identifying data routinely acquired
during a crash investigation.

To read data recorded by an EDR,
special equipment is required, and
access to the vehicle or the EDR is
needed. In addition to the vehicle
manufacturer, other parties, such as
law enforcement, that have the special
equipment, can read the information if
they have access to the vehicle or the
EDR.FCA will not disclose any of the
data recorded in an EDR to a third party
unless:
A written agreement from the
vehicle owner or the lessee is
obtained.
Officially requested by the police or
other law enforcement authorities.
Used as a defense for FCA in a law
suit, claim, or arbitration.
Ordered by a judge or court.
However, if necessary, FCA will:
Use the data for research on FCA
vehicle performance, including safety.
Disclose the data or the
summarized data to a third party for
research purposes without disclosing
vehicle or owner identification
information.
Recording Of Vehicle Data
This vehicle is equipped with a
computer which records the following
main vehicle data related to vehicle
controls, operation, and other driving
conditions.
Recorded Data
Vehicle conditions such as engine
speed and vehicle speed.
Driving operation conditions such
as accelerator and brake pedals, and
information related to the
environmental circumstances while the
vehicle is driven.
Malfunction diagnosis information
from each on-vehicle computer.
Information related to controls of
other on-vehicle computers.
The recorded data may vary depending
on the vehicle grade and optional
equipment. Voice and images are not
recorded."

People are willingly plug a GPS tracker/data logger into their cars in hopes of saving a few dollars a year on insurance, then drive like 95y old people holding up traffic. TOM TOM sold their data collection on users to the police so they can set up speed traps according to where people speed the most. Our info and data already sold left and right to anyone willing to pay.

Question, j'aimerais retoucher un vidéo capté par ma dashcam, vous utilisez quel programme? Pas grand chose juste couper le son et prendre 45 secondes du 5 minutes...

I use Movie Maker in Windows, it does that fine and more if you want to go fancy, not too fancy.

Wow, That escalated quickly.

My thought was more just a simple cam where you plug in your own micro SD card otherwise it's not connected to anything else in the car. That or at the very least put a usb plug behind the rear view mirror to avoid the hassle of having to hardwire into the fuse box for a clean look.

Although I'm with you guys on the "fuck big brother". I'd never buy a Chevy because of it. Back in the day you were able to pull a fuse or disconnect the antenna and it was bye-bye on-star but these days the fucking On-star reps can practically drive your car remotely and they made it so that if you you can't kill it without killing the car.

A black box that they can only physically pull after a crash to determine who's at fault, I can live with that. If you were being an idiot and crashed, deal with the consequences. What I wouldn't stand for is pre-punishment like " oh, we see here that you've been driving for 15 years, never had an accident but you once drove 160 on this highway so we're cancelling your coverage or you have the option of paying $2,000 extra a year to keep it." I think it would take a week max with Adjusto for me to blacklisted. I accelerate hard on on-ramps, take turns that would probably saturate the upper levels of the g-meter and cruise way to fast.

But don't forget the biggest one, your Apple or Google phone. Even if it is not tracking at high resolution, it takes 2 points and divides them by the time it took you to cover them. And who here doesn't have a cell phone.

Got on Lacordaire from the service road and then Versa driver started drifting into my lane so I honked him to let him know I'm there. He slammed on his brakes for whatever reason, I was taking my girl for chemo so didn't stop telling him that he is an utter cunt.
