Seeing a Ford Crown Victoria in your rear view mirror on the highway will usually jolt the nerves of most people who’ve developed a keen eye at spotting police cruisers from far away. The car’s imposing presence and unique silhouette have been synonymous with law enforcement for many years.
That said, I’ll bet many people have wondered what it must be like to be on the inside looking out. Perhaps they thought to themselves that they could handle the vehicle with authority in a police chase while using the powerful rear-wheel drive V8 to ruin a criminal’s day.
Now you have that chance.
Automotive journalist and former professional drifter Carl Nadeau operates a drifting school out of Circuit ICAR in Mirabel, Quebec. The school offers several packages to the public including the police interceptor experience, a winter driving course and several levels of drifting instruction depending on your skill level.
Carl recently took the staff from New Age Hotrods, a performance garage in upstate New York, out for the interceptor experience.
“We have all had those moments where you’re driving and the rear end comes around on a corner to give you that uneasy feeling. But with this you have no worries because it is in a controlled environment with Carl giving you pointers.” said Josh, co-owner of Newage.
“All in all the experience was great and by the end of the day we were able to drift the figure eight track with no issues. We are really looking forward to going back in the spring for more but with some grip and smoke added.”
Other cars in Nadeau’s drifting fleet include a Ford Mustang GT and Mazda RX-8.
