I always wanted to have a Swedish fun to drive car I love Saab and Volvo(I don't know exactly why! Mostly because they are a bit rare, I don't like having cars that are too common) but I am a bit scared of their reliability and cost of ownership mostly because I don't want to be screwed with mechanics (I was when I was owning Germans cars) now I am a bit more experienced with cars and basics mechanics skills and since I been owning an American car, I never had a too big to handle problem (except a coolant leak but I have found a reliable GM mechanic since then...but know that my AT start to acting up, I am looking for a replacement) I feel like that If I finally find a reliable Swedish cars specialist that can check the car before I buy it and confirm that it's will be somewhat reliable and not have big mechanical failures in the near future. Find a place that can have all the parts if I need to (rockauto maybe?) I would totally give Swedish cars a try
I've owned quite a few Volvos, from 240 to 740, 940 to 960 and now my first fwd 850 T5 Sportswagon (still have a 300E Sportline benz) I inquired in regards of the cost of everything on this fwd platform before jumping on it, appart from the cost of axles, everything is the same and of course one extra spark plug lol.
Very nice car to drive, extremely pleasant power band even in automatic.

Even at 330k km everything is tight and sound on it... Very easy to work on as well. After all: you pay for a quality build.

@Lexus: I don't think OP ever drove a 2cv... Such performance is not DD material, you can't even keep up with traffic... Might as well get a Renault 5 base.

I completely understand what you meant in regards to the dashboard of the c30, it is however a revolutionary design (center panel, radio etc etc).
Just wanted to add that you are better off taking the T5 on the long run as with time you'll get bored with the power of the 2.4i, as where when the same happens in the T5: you tune it (polestar, ARD, Elevate) or upgrade the turbo & i.c. and you have a new car ;)

Sometimes Germans just don't have what it takes... Wait they do! But America is too ghay:

We have the CLA AMG and M235i (same cars but longer), it's already better than nothing.

Otherwise there's the B200t if op doesn't mind a more familial car. But seeing the low prices, they must be expansive to maintain too.

I find that one of the most important features in a car is the interior and its options. it's by far what we use the most and what we see the most. unless you like sitting by your car outside and just look at it for hours...

having said that, you want me to compare that ugly POS interior to this
2005-mercedes-c230-kompressor-sport-sedan_interior_03.jpg
?

the c230 comes with a panoramic roof, easy acces front seats, 10 point ajustable seats, full display on cluster, white lighting, ac, heated seats, steering controls for display and radio, MPG display, exterior temp display, etc...

that C30 interior is probably one of the ugliest interiors I have ever seen... I think I would prefer the 2cv interior... my 1990 jetta and my 1990 fox had green lighting... that is ugly is fuark!

Bon ben arrete de tostiner achete en une pis revient te plaindre dans 6 mois. Tu demande un avis le monde te le donne pis tes convaincu du contraire..

op: looks can be deceiving, the damn car is cheap inside, panoramic roof is cool but... do you buy a house for the pool it has in the yard?

everything is one off on the c230 coupe it'll cost you an arm and a leg and maybe the foot from the other leg. At that price you might as well get a 2nd generation CLK320 hardtop...

Anyway, like mentionned you seem pretty decided on that car, I hope i speak for all when i say that i wish you don't have problems with it and enjoy it to the fullest.

Lube the hell out of every component of that panoramic roof, window sliders and do a prelube cleanup every 2 oil changes, run motul 8100 and put premium please.

But just for the hell of it, go try a c30 T5 6spd... just for the hell of it.

OP is looking for a loaded Kia or Hyunday ...

If you're not concerned with performance, but want the look, extremely nice features, and modernity.....why not a huyndai veloster??? It's not German, but it rides very nice, looks great, has a nice interior, and is quite underpowered as well, which isn't an issue given your bike and other methods of thrill.

Also, the C320 WAS offered in north america, but they're quite hard to find and are going to be pre-2005

not saying I'll buy one... calm your vaginas for those that said likewise!! I was saying that an interior is important to m, and that volvo interior is ugly as a mother!! won't buy it even if it's declared Best car buy by every magazine... just turns out it's not even close to a good buy...

what I am asking is what are my alternatives? don't like the mazda 3... it's cheap as fuck, rusts like hell, keeps no value and takes in petrol like an irish drinks its lichor, way too fast and way too hard...

the A3 looks promising, but a bit over the budget I wanted to put in the car, especially for the dd it,s gonna be. plus not sure the 2.0t is really that fuel efficient. also, it won't be that much of a change from my current VW... goddammit! comming back protugal with a gazillion choices for hatchbacks to this shithole dominated by an american dictated market just pisses me off...

I can tell you now that the Audi 2.0t, for what it is, is excellent on fuel, but heavily dependent on your driving dynamics.

We have better cars than the Europeans. Trust me if Europeans had a choice theyd be driving what North America drives, not pint sized hatchbacks with 65hp. They just buy hatchbacks because they have to, its just easier to park and drive on their roads.

Here they're about as pratical as an F150 as a daily driver in Paris.

Go try one, when I was owning a vw passat. a guy wanted to trade his mb kompressor coupe for it, I test drive it and I was not impress at all, plus I don't know if the car was having a engine problem or something but not matter how hard I floored it (pedal to the metal) I was having a HUGE lag before the car even started to take off, it's was so weird (Kompressor means supercharged right?)compare to my 1.8T that was so "zippy" even if I was turbocharged (suppose to have more lag than a supercharger) I was looking for this gen of mb also (because how cheap they are, and you can find them with manual trans too!) and from what I have read online: its seems to be the worst Mercedes Benz era ever..and they got rust issues as well (b200 also)

LOL @ Volvo not being able to make nice cars or nice interiors

@OP : don't tell people to calm their ''vaginas'' when you're teh one aksing for advice...

You do not have many options and you are stuck on 2 things: German and HatchBack/Coupe.

option 1 (accept your faith)
2008-brabus-ultimate-112-based-on-smart-fortwo-interior-1280x960.jpg

option 2 (way ahead of it's time, probably too old for you, yet it knocks the shoes off of most cars today)
audi-coupe-quattro-audi-coupe-s2-quattro---1990-1991-1992-1993-1994-1995-1996.jpg

option 3, the most sensible one... (but you'll think it's 3 times bigger, heavier etc etc)
2004-mercedes-benz-clk320-2-dr-clk320-coupe-pic-59002.jpeg

29 centimeters longer than the c230 coupe... yet 20x the car + surprisingly great on fuel.

option 4 (this is the r32 I was referring to in my previous post)

option 5 (good luck finding one)

OP

I have the perfect solution for you. I can't believe I forgot about this.

You want German? You want a small(ish) engine? You want features like Panoramic sunroof? You want it to be in your budget (the A3 will have 92834892948012831283 km in the budget I think you're looking at) and be considerably more reliable and cheaper to maintain than an old C coupe?

Your best bet is the Opel Astra. You can find recent ones (07-08) very cheap and if you're lucky you'll find a fully loaded one with pano sunroof, leather etc. 1.8 simple engine.

PS: The Mazda 3 GT interior makes the 05's C interior seem like a Lada but hey, to each they're own.
