What a shame that they'll sell the heads of their national animal. Pathetic.
Just to be clear, I have zero problem with hunting as long as the meat and ideally as much of the animal as possible is used. I think it's far better and more humane than our meat industry.
There are 5-6000 of these animals on the planet. The best way to conserve a species is to not hunt it to extinction for sport. Not by letting rich assholes with small dicks kill them so they can have their horns up on their wall, for a fee. What kind of mentality is that? For a fee, they'll let you kill one, then throw one in a zoo and all is well? For me this isn't much different than killing a rhino to cut his horn off, or bringing a shark on board to cut its fin off then throw it back in the ocean alive. It's a sick selfish mentality and part of the reason Earth would be better if there were only 5-6000 humans.
"Poaching, with its indirect impacts as disturbance, increasing fleeing distances and resulting reduction of effective habitat size, is by far the most important factor threatening the survival of the markhor population."
There's no comparison to be made between this and Inuits hunting belugas for survival.
