Thoughts on the Suzuki DR650 for beginner

Hello moto people. I'm in the process of the doing my bike license. I have Zero experience on a bike (closest experience is a ATV), but naturally I like anything with a motor on it. I was wondering of the Suzuki DR 650 is a good bike for a beginner? I'd like to stick to the dual sport theme as it seems to be the only type of bike that appeals to me. I sat on a Kawasaki KLR 650. Did not like it, feels top heavy and wide.

Other note to mention is i'm 6'1", not sure if I can flat foot this bike, possibly.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I was even considering the DR200. But I need to try sitting on a DR650, apparently it is not as wide as the KLR.

Yup, although the bike is pretty high, so it might feel a bit heavier than it really is.

To me, dual purpose bikes are really great commuters and daily drivers around town. On the highway, they're not really fun to drive.

It really depends how you will use you bike.

Oh and DR650s are bulletproof. Air-cooled engine + oil cooler, it really is a tank.

Thanks again for the info, I appreciate the input especially from someone that has owned the bike. I would use it mostly for the commute to work and back. Not really any highway driving. Some light trail on the occasional weekend.

damn, 4frnt, I drooled on your DR650 for a while when I was shopping around at the beginning of this season... it sold a little to fast.

Hehe thanks!

I put it for sale, a few people came to check it, mostly tire kickers... Sold it in about a month!
