It’s only been a few hours since the BBC announced Jeremy Clarkson’s suspension “following a fracas” with a producer, but there are already reports emerging about what that fracas might have actually entailed. According to the Radio Times, Clarkson’s suspension was due to the 54-year-old allegedly “aiming a punch at a male producer” last week.

The suspension has resulted in the final three episodes of the 22nd Top Gear series being pulled from schedules. It’s not currently clear if the episodes stand any chance of being aired.

This Sunday’s episode was set to feature the trio driving around in a Fiat 124 Spider, MGB GT and Peugeot 304 Cabriolet. Former professional footballer and current Match of the Day host Gary Lineker was due to appear as the Star in the Reasonably Priced Car, while Richard Hammond was to pit the Subaru WRX STI against the VW Golf R on track.

We’ll bring you more news as we have it.

Top Gear's ratings have been declining for a while now. It could be a publicity stunt to make people care about the show again.

lol wut?

Last season had 6.4MM average UK viewers, all time high is 7.45 and lowest is 3.19 in the early 2000s. It is broadcasted in all BBC international branches and is a money making machine.

TopGear isn't going anywhere.

Former host, Tiff Needell. Clarkson is much more fun to watch.

Needell is a television presenter and motoring journalist, and co-hosted the BBC TV series Top Gear starting in 1987.[3] In 2001, when the BBC cancelled Top Gear (the show was brought back in 2002), Needell and the whole cast defected and signed with Five to produce and host a new motoring show named Fifth Gear. He does, however, still contribute to Top Gear magazine. Needell has also co-presented 'MPH' at Earls Court in 2003, 2004 and 2005 with Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond and in 2006 with Jeremy Clarkson and James May (because Richard Hammond was recovering from an on-location accident in a rocket car which rolled over at top speed, leaving him in a coma). He also appeared very briefly in the 2005 Top Gear Comic Relief special, Stars in Fast Cars. In 2009 he appeared on James May's Toy Stories featuring the building of a Scalextric around Brooklands, and also visited James' LEGO house. In 2011, he appeared on Top Gear, driving the Ariel Atom V8 in a race against a BMW S1000RR around the Top Gear Test Track. The segment was done in humour, with James May supposedly driving the Atom V8, only for it to actually be Tiff.

He was one of several people suspected of portraying the elusive masked racing driver The Stig on the current format of Top Gear.[4][5] The true identity of The Stig was eventually revealed as being Ben Collins in late, necessitating Needell's return to Top Gear after a nine-year absence to train Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle for his lap in the reasonably-priced car.[6] In the same episode Jeremy Clarkson referred to Needell as the "Emergency Stig"
