Dirt : PC Early Access

Post your times for the full Pike's Peak runs with which car and your controller setup e.g. G27, etc.

I can't remember what I did, but it was sub 11 minutes, about 56 seconds below the Community Delta in the Quattro.
G27, manual gears with clutch.
I'll do another run and post the times.

9:38.56 Pikes Peak classic, Peugeot 205, G27, H-pattern + clutch, no abs. Manage to spin one time and stall two times lol

Superb! I've only completed the run about 4 times, so this was great to see. Never used the 205 yet either. And... certainly not tried the mix surface run yet! Well done on that. It looks like a lot of fun on the gravel sections too - at least you make it look so; some nice turns
I will watch that vid a few more times to see where I can improve. I think there are some corners you can take a bit faster too, but I cannot say for sure until I try your choice of surface and car. Thanks a lot for posting the vid!

BTW, what did you use to capture the video?

Thanks! I know there is a lot of spot where I can go faster, I'm still learning the track, this was maybe the 10th times I did the full course.

I'm using Shadow play to record, it comes with nvidia geforce experience if you have a nvidia graphic card.

Thanks! I will check out Shadow Play. Up until now, I just thought of the GeForce Experience as bloatware. Nice to know I have this installed already.

Shit: Just saw that my GTX570 is not compatible. Good excuse to upgrade the whole PC!

I just tried the Peugeot 405 and wow... so much easier to control than the Quattro!

I got 9:40.61 in my first attempt, and 9:40.66 in my second! Both runs included a spin out and a stall. And this is with same settings as photoshopaddict:
G27, H-pattern + clutch, no abs.

I am on all tarmac though, which has its plusses and minuses. I also loosened the rear differential on the Peugeot two notches and lengthened the gear ratios by two from the default.

10:18 on my first mixed surface run.

Pros of mixed surface:

The gravel's usable width can be much greater than the tarmac.
If you go a little too wide, your tyres are still on gravel, so no spinning out of control from being on two different surfaces when accelerating.
Easier to drive a clean run, I think.
Easier to drift around a corner and get it pointing the right way.
A lot fewer of those horrible "DiRT" Bags on the side of the road to snag on.

Cons of mixed surface:
Traction on gravel, of course.
Acceleration compromised.
Have to re-gauge the differential settings for optimal traction/control.
Longer "pull" on handbrake needed if using it for hairpins.
Easier to stall, I think.

^^first time i tried the 405 on full tarmac made 11:07.need alot of practice im so slow lol

The best way to improve quickly is to finish the course slowly, and then find out which bits you can go faster on as you learn the course. It's different from the rally aspect since there is no pace-note-spewing co-driver. AND there is no moving map either, so it's all a matter of repetition until you get a good feeling for the course.

The worst, but more tempting way, imho, is to go flat out until you crash. Then start again and adjust where you crashed, and then continue to go too fast until the next crash. Keep repeating. The problem with this is that you then learn the beginning part wayyy better, and you hardly ever complete a run. To counteract this, intersperse some sector 3 practice too, to get familiar with the top of the mountain.

I did it the second way for full tarmac. :D

Also, in the 405, you really need to take down the rear differential a couple of notches for great control... unless you're very adept at applying power gradually. I don't heel-and-toe so the temptation to make up time right after a corner often results in a spin-out with a quite locked differential.
