HELP!!! X5 engine question. Need help. 03 motor in a 01???

I have a smashed 2003 x5 3.0 that's another worth fixing but only has 150k on it. I found a 2001 X5 3.0 with 400k and has a blown transfer case.
My question is: can I just swap the full power terrain out of the 03 and put it in my the 2001?

If I check with the scrap yards they tell me 01-02 is one model. 03 is alone and then 04-06 is another model!

Who can confirm that's this will or will not work?

No unfortunately it won't , small differences but it won't work

What won't fit? Motor or transmission.. I was told 01-02 is a 5 speed tranny and 03 can either be a 5 or 6 speed tranny. So I have to check! If in fact my 03 is a 5 speed then will it fit?

Oh sorry I saw X5 and assumed it was a 4.4.

For an M54 the only difference is the early motors are not drive by wire. Throttle bodies and electronics are a bit different. Not sure what years are what.

Even if they are not the same on the intake side the same the block is all the same.
