The 2001 have only 67 000 km and they look great IMO. Even if it's "old", it might still be in good shape.

I will never buy a ~200K or more KM 3/5/7 series. The money pit is all on your luck.

Because an E39 in good shape is a classic. Although I wouldn't pay that much for that example... It's certainly VERY NICE car and they have started going up in value

While a 10 year old 335i with 190k is a gamble and won't be a classic anytime soon.

Haha. Seriously though, if you offered me a brand new ae86 or a brand new s2000, I'd take the 86. A clean well built 86 with an F20C? More desirable to me than an S2000, and I do love S2K's.

I concur with this post, lathough Id prefer a hi-comp 4AG Atlantic engine

It's a dream of mine just to hear one in person! With an unlimited budget, that would be the way to go but those rebuild intervals would get old. I'd settle for a 20v 4age... I'm easy.

Because the E39's are timeless, and imo the best looking 5 series ever made (even if it's just a 530i). Thanks for the lulz tho, comparing that mint E39 to a beat up 335i moneypit....
