On another note, I'd love to see that track open to the public. Unfortunately, know the people of this province, it would subsequently close within a matter of days after kid crash's dad's car, could've dead, so safety safety. Either that, or we'd have a ton of hipsters on bicycles protesting the environmental damage.

It would be an incentive for people to keep it on the track. It seems like accessing iCar is not worth it for lots of people who don't feel like driving 40KM off the island for lapping.

As for people smacking the wall, I've driven night runs on the circuit in the past 3 years around GP weekend when they remove all the cones/signalization for cyclists. I haven't even come close to smacking those walls going WOT through most of the circuit!

I also believe that there would be profit to make out of it.

As for the casino closing, it is possible to access the casino without shutting everything down, by Concorde bridge...
Anyways, this will never happen because of high insurance costs, as well as sound issues. I.e. ZR1 with its exhaust on track mode going WOT on the casino straight, or a lovely challenge car going WOT anywhere sound resonates...

going wot with your yaris?

:p

You have no clue what you're talking about

I would gladly stand corrected, which is why I wrote I believe...

That being said, I'd love to know the exact reasons for me being wrong!

dafuq ?

can you show me this on google maps

2 things to consider, now that this thread has derailed from OP topic,
1) City of Montreal has too much to lose in liability if someone was to get killed on a lapping day- this has been the longtime reason why racing has not been allowed - save the big events. Suing somebody that has no money is meaningless- suing MTL, well that's a big target
2) and IMO, the most important factor, what a fucking boring track to lap on!! OK if you have a super car, it can be fun because of long straights- the rest gets old quick. This track would wreck cars to a larger degree than most tracks we use....

anyhow after racing a Micra there this year and having several dozen lapping sessions on a sport bike- back in the eighties, (yes we were able to lap the track unofficially) I wouldn't be so excited about going back there.

Oh yeah- as others mentioned- you are just dreaming if you think that it will ever be a place to lap. Laugh all you want about G1- but its the closest most MR readers will get to lapping there.

Lapping on Circuit Gilles Villeneuve?

It's a track in the city. Hence, liability, noise, insurance- are among the list of many factors that will keep that landscape a track for only 3 days, and a park for the rest of the year.

It's not the only track to work this way, Mount Panorama aka Bathurst is the same :

Wikipedia
As a public road, on non-race days and when it is not closed off during the day as part of a racing event, Mount Panorama is open to the public. Cars can drive in both directions around the circuit for no charge. However, a strict speed limit of 60 km/h (37 mph) is enforced, and police regularly patrol the circuit.
