Eastern Canadian road trip idea

Hey all, for my next vacation I'd like to go on a big road trip across eastern Canada, and I was wondering what kind of advice or knowledge you'd be able to share that's worth knowing before I go with it. First I'd like to start off by going to Charlottetown, PE, then drive to Syndey, NS and take the ferry into Newfoundland, go to St. John's and then back track a bit to go north and take the ferry to Blanc-Sablon and go into Labrador. Once there I'd drive to Labrador City, and then make my way through northern Quebec and then head southwest to Rouyn-Noranda and then finally head back to Montreal.

How much would the ferry rides cost? How long are they? Any tips on driving through remote areas with very little places to stop? Places to stay or how to know when it's time to call it a night? How far between are gas stations? Anything else that I'm missing would be appreciated to mention too. Vehicle I'd be doing this in is a 2016 GMC Canyon. Also what is the best month to do this?

Here is a link to my route that I chose: https://www.google.ca/maps/dir/Pierrefonds,+Montreal,+QC/Charlottetown,+PE/Sydney,+NS/St.+John's,+NL/Labrador+City,+NL/Rouyn-Noranda,+QC/Pierrefonds,+Montreal,+QC/@50.6749754,-75.9994083,6z/data=!4m44!4m43!1m5!1m1!1s0x4cc93b9cd8ec505b:0x6886380c70718396!2m2!1d-73.89036!2d45.4610142!1m5!1m1!1s0x4b5e52ddd47f83c5:0x5a5777b89f519b27!2m2!1d-63.1310704!2d46.23824!1m5!1m1!1s0x4b67fb367e723415:0xa783539b7b308087!2m2!1d-60.194224!2d46.1367899!1m5!1m1!1s0x4b0ca38e6b0aa261:0x9e1fd4001f12261f!2m2!1d-52.7128315!2d47.5605413!1m5!1m1!1s0x4cf54b769af1eda1:0x314b7cd57394d063!2m2!1d-66.914216!2d52.9390014!1m5!1m1!1s0x4d2133a1dc9144df:0x796a59376708dc40!2m2!1d-79.0187836!2d48.2342362!1m5!1m1!1s0x4cc93b9cd8ec505b:0x6886380c70718396!2m2!1d-73.89036!2d45.4610142!3e0

My advice for the Cabot Trail: If you are not stopping in each town and visiting and hiking its totally NOT worth the time to drive around!

I drove around the Cabot Trail in 2015 and I have to say it was a major let down! Only a handful of places where you have a nice view, roads are so-so.

I agree, after all the hype it was a bit of a letdown. I'm still glad I did it though, get it off the bucket list.

OP, I don't have much advice aside from have fun and be sure to make a thread with pics when you do the trip.

Do more in NS.
Check out Halifax, Lunenberg, Peggy's Cove. Wolfville is an amazing little university town. The Annapolis Valley has lots of wine. You need to experience the tides in the Bay Of Fundy. It blew my mind how drastic and sudden the water changes.

A Little north of Wolfville is a place known as The Lookoff. AMAZING views of the Bay and the Valley.

Unfortunately I don't have much to say about PEI, didn't spend much time there, but it's beautiful, and the drive across Confederation Bridge is awesome.

The ferry to Newfoundland is crazy expensive. My girlfriend went with her mom, and if I remember correctly theres a short and long ferry. The short one is $400 and the long was like $600-$800.

No Funswick is long as hell. Edmonston is a nice little place. Never stopped anywhere else. There's a rest top called Silver Fox though, I'd recommend stopping there to stretch your legs.

You can cannonball from West Island to Wolfville in about 12 hours. If you have enough time it's worth stopping places though. My only other suggestion is something I haven't tried, which is to cut through the states instead of going through NB. There would be a lot more to see along the drive.

Otherwise enjoy it and have fun!
