F1 needs to do something to living up the show. This is a start...

http://www.espn.co.uk/f1/story/_/id/14831484/f1-agrees-shake-qualifying-format

The new format was agreed at a meeting in Geneva of the F1 Strategy Group and F1 Commission to discuss ways to make the sport more exciting. The agreement to change the format is targeted at mixing up grids without using artificial measures such as reversing the order.

The new rules will still see qualifying divided into three segments, with drivers expected to be on track throughout and eliminated during each session. The first session will last 16 minutes and after the first seven minutes a driver will be knocked out every 90 seconds until 15 are left. The same will apply in Q2 with further seven set to be knocked out by the same method until eight remain.

The final eight will then shoot it out with the eliminations starting again after the first five minutes until two cars are left on track battling for pole
.

The new rules are likely to cause a few upsets at certain races and will offer action throughout the sessions.

let them do all together the old way for christ sake...

By old way do you mean where everyone sat idle for the first 50 minutes then slapped on the "special one-lap" qualifying tires and the engine revved to the max to last a whopping 4 laps??? Then hell yes, I miss those days...

yeah sort of.. at least, tu perds pas 60 minutes a skipper en ff jusqu'à la dernière session anyway...

How about a non shitty tire degradation rule?

I agree BUT Pirelli is the problem here. They have proven incapable of making a RACING tyre that degrades properly. The rules asked for tyres that spice up the show & create pitstops but nobody asked for tyres with a tiny temperature window, inconsistent, that overheat when being pushed, which cannot be cooled down & create "thermal degredation" . Push them & you get what 2-3 hot laps out of them? Drive at 70-85% and they last 7-25 or more laps depending on the compound.

Constant cuts in tyres EVERY weekend, more so than any other manufacturer EVER. With their poor tyres has created "delaminations" and blow outs a few times.

Michelin said they would be able to make a proper tyre. Look at WEC/Lemans, drivers LOVE Michelin tyres, they can push hard EVERY lap & not overheat them, get consistent times and run for a long time. (People go read about Michelin hybrid slick inter)

Pirelli has been horrible and theyve had many years to improve, its their tyre design that is garbage.

Imagine go-karting (or whatever you guys want to race) sitting in 2nd or 3rd position for 15-20 laps & driving at 80%. You can't push because of the tyres, you have to wait for the leader to pit & then for 2-3 laps, you push to make up the small gap & then settle back down for another 15 laps. When you race karts, you are constantly on edge, pushing. F1 is not racing now. It's really complete garbage.

In competition kart racing once you're in the faster 2 stroke classes (Rotax Max, DD2 or shifters) you actually do have to save tires during a final. If you push like a mad man the entire race you might pull ahead at first but the real good drivers will get you by the end. You see that all the time in the top levels of kart racing, especially in Europe!

Ha Mercedes has already won the WCC and WDC. Ferrari will win a couple races but the season is pretty much over

^^ sure looks like it but let's hope Ferrari mounts a challenge and we have a two team fight. Ideally it would be 3 but who would be the 3rd team???

The battle for Midpack will be interesting this season. McLaren won't have enough to battle at the top but hopefully will be fine with 4th or 5th in WCC. RedBull seems to have a good package. I can't wait for the start in Melbourne!

They're out of touch with the fans. Grosjean and Haas were posting video from testing on social media. FOM had them remove it

Totally out of touch. Why can't they just go back to the old qualifying system they used for decades, unlimited laps, unlimited fuel, 10 sets of tires, for a 60 minute shootout both Friday and Saturday. So much easier to follow and you's have cars circulating on the track the full hour. For anyone who's followed this sport since the late 80's F1 is a former shadow of itself. This is what happens when you have Wall Street geriatrics running the show. Social media remains a mystery for these people.

The old knock out system works perfectly fine. There was nothing wrong or broken with it. These guy's aren't even wall street, they are on another level of idiocy
