Helping an employee save some money

Hey I'm trying to help an employee (who has a very limited budget) find out what's wrong with his engine. I took a video and was wondering if someone could give some tips just by the sound of it. Its an early 2000 honda accord. Mechanics charge 105$us/hour down here in West Palm Beach, I don't want him to get ripped off if its a simple fix.

Sounds like more then one issue :p, did he get under the car to check anything that is loose and rattling, sounds like a heatshield to me, with something else mixed in there.
 
Well hopefully its just one issue lol.. He fixed his a/c recently and it stopped working again (still under warranty luckily). I don't know if there could be something linked to it..

No he didn't crawl under the car, he's not mechanic-savvy at all...

On voit tres clairement sur la video que la clutch de l'AC tourne dans le vide:

Moi je call que la clutch de son AC a lache...
 
I know it doesn't help you guys but I just wanted to point out that you're an awesome boss to take care of an employee like that.
 
check toute les poulies. power steering, pompe a eau, a/c, ça sonne comme quelque chose dans le genre. dans le video c'est pas aussi pire mais ça donne une idée comment checker.

 
Merci pour les reponses, le jeune m'a texté d'un garage proche de chez lui, on lui dit que c'est le compresseur.. Ça se peut tu? J'aurais pas pensé qu'un compresseur fait autant de bruit quand il lâche..

On voit la poulie tourner mais a gauche ca tourne pas ou peu, ca peut-etre le compresseur mais avant de changer ca je verifierais la clutch de l'AC, il y a un truc avec des tie-wrap pour la tester, check sur YouTube avant qu'y se fasse fourrer d'un compresseur + labour.
 
Si c'est le compresseur. Est ce qu'on peut tout simplement l'arreter et ne pas avoir d'a/c ou c'est une reparation essentiel?

A moins que je ne me trompe, si c'etait le compresseur il ferait pas de bruit quand l'AC est a off parce que la clutch serait "disingaged."

Si ca le fait tout le temps je call encore clutch de AC.

Anyone?
 
Son a/c fonctionne, mais le bruit n'arrete pas quand il eteint l'a/c.

I can't see your video so I might be talking out of my ass. If you want to rule out at least the engine side then start the engine without the belt on. If there's no noise you can be sure it's an accessory run off the belt. If it's an A/C issue (again I don't know I can't see your video) make sure to compare the price between the clutch and the compressor. Often the clutch is almost as much as the compressor itself, it could be worth it to replace the whole thing.
 
Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure he's qualified to take off the belt on his own lol.. Even more difficult when you work 12+ hours/day!

Mechanic's diagnosis: compressor + air dryer (?) = 1200 $ with labor

I guess I'm going to be lifting him for a little longer lol
