i used to think USSR was the shit, untill i spoke to several of ex USSR immigrants
and changed my mind, the whole 5 weeks vacation thing was cool , they had cool resorts in Ukraine and such apparently

Yep it wasn't as bad as the West makes it out to be but it wasn't great... Getting Oranges or Bananas was a rarity but you could easily get that new Toshiba VCR or tv from the blackmarket. When you visited a grocery store you didn't get the choice as we have here, you got whatever they had in stock. Come to think of it Germany is very similar with grocery shopping, not a ton of choice.
BTW: Most people in Europe get 3-5 weeks of paid vacation per year it's only us fools in North America that get 2 whole weeks WOW!

Oddly enough Lada's sold decently well in Canada...
I know a friend of my dad bought a 4 door sedan brand new !
they were not that bad when new once they were more adapted to the canadian market ok they looked really outdated
the problems were popping after 2 years

Quand j'étais jeune, je trouvais que ça pouvait faire un bon remplacement de mon Samurai et j'avais été en voir un qui était en bas de 5,000$ qui datait de même pas 2 ans. Je me présente là, essaye le truck, tout va bien, je suis intéressé et le proprio commence à me demander pourquoi je veux l'acheter, je fais quoi dans la vie, etc... Je suis aux études et bla bla, besoin 4x4 pcq je fais de longs trajets l'hiver... Il me dit que sérieusement, il ne crois pas que je devrais l'acheter pcq c'est un gros paquet de problème et surtout la dispo des pièces est pas évidente et qu'en étant étudiant il pense pas que ça soit viable pour moi de faire confiance à son Niva.
Je suis reparti, content et aussi déçu. Je le voulais.
