Three Canadian cruise ship passengers were charged with drug smuggling Monday after Sydney police allegedly found 95 kilograms of cocaine in their cabin luggage.
The haul valued at nearly $30 million was the largest seizure in Australia of narcotics carried by passengers of a cruise ship or airliner, Australian Border Force commander Tim Fitzgerald said.
Andre Tamine, 63, Isabelle Lagace, 28, and Melina Roberce, 22, were arrested Sunday after the MS Sea Princess, operated by California-based Princess Cruises, berthed in Sydney

Australia doesn't fuck around with drug smuggling, any kind of illicit drugs is through the roof expensive there.

They were probably getting paid like $5k to smuggle that too. I saw a documentary not long ago about naive North American tourists acting as mules to try to make a quick "easy" buck. Then they're crying for their government to help them out when they get caught. Good riddance... Gang de sans-génies.

You're right, it's probably more like $5k/kilo but my point was these fools are getting a very small payout for the risk they take.

No way. That would be akin to paying nearly $150 000 each of those dummies.
Mules aren't that valuable or hard to come by.

I'd bet they were happy to do it for a combination of sex+attention+and a few freebies worth a few grands (ie free cruise)
