Alberta 2018 - 15$/h minimum, c'est fait. A quand notre tour?

That has nothing to do with a $15/ minimum wage, it will happen @ $11 or $15/hour just the same. And prices rising with a $15 minimum wage is untrue. Wonder how long it will take this backward province to realize $11/hour is not a living wage.

Ok so lets say, you have 15$ an hour and the minimum is going up to 15$. Now youre making the minimum.. what would you want next. Would you think its fair for you? Wouldnt you want to have the raise to?

yes, what is the problem with wanting a raise?

And prices rising with a $15 minimum wage is untrue. .

Really? Lets say you own a restaurant and employ 15 people, each person gets a $3.25 raise, that is $48.75 per hr and you are open 17 hrs a day that is $828.74 per day out of your pocket, add that the person who is selling you his product is charging an extra 5% due to having to pay his workers more so lets just round this up to $1,000.00 a day. Are you going to eat this cost? Serious.
And that is not even adding the extra CPP and whatever else the employer pays to the government.

The trickle up effect will happen as the more experienced person will demand more that the new guy with the same wage, everyone in your company will also want that increase, and some people do not think it will effect the cost of goods, Bahahahahahaha. Same with the carbon tax, some will say only the polluters and big business will have to pay, wake up the cost will all be charged to us, no business will eat the tax.

Wonder how long it will take this backward province to realize $11/hour is not a living wage.

it is not supposed to be a living wage, it is meant for students, beginners in the workforce, second job. If you are only able to have a min wage job all your life it should not be anyone elses problem, take night courses, try harder at work, there are many grants available for low income earners to further educate themselves and advance in the workforce, just need to get off your ass and apply yourself.

So go work harder and get a better job. Minimum wage is paid for minimum skills. Students, side-jobs, part-time, skill-less people. You're not supposed to be living on it. People are so stupid and jealous of others that they don't want to accept the fact that some people have worked tirelessly and made a lot of sacrifices to be where they're at. "Everyone should be paid well and live a comfortable life." That's not how it will ever work... Even if we didn't live in the complex economic systems that we are currently in, the ones that always succeeded and were able to have more were the ones that woke up the earliest, went to bed latest, worked the hardest, made the sacrifices and/or came up with new ideas and discoveries.

As aforementioned and to reiterate the last few posts ahead of mine: minimum wage is meant as a placeholder "in between" jobs or when you're a student or forced to work part time for any reason including maternity.

It's not meant to make a living and raise a family of four.

But it's probably meant for people with limited physical and/or mental abilities so that they can have a job without some corporation (or PME, or private) taking advantage of them by lowballing their salary.

It's also probably meant so that immigrants can't come into the country and lowball regular candidates for low paying jobs. As in "I will tend your cash for 8$/hour instead of 11..." (which of course we all know still happens incessantly as they are often paid cash - and not only immigrants.)

Anyone that is raised to think that they can live on minimum wage should have their parents shot in the head behind an alley.

And I can't agree more to this as well.

Since the start, THIS is my main question... The guy that works there for 3 years and managed to get a raise to 15.25$/h, what happens to him? He's fucked and stays there? If that's the case, his buying power is DECREASING because the raise from 11$ to 15$ will have an effect on the prices he pays on mostly everything.

Good companies will do something like:

11$ -> 15$
12$ -> 16$
13$ -> 16.75$
14$ -> 17.5$
15$ -> 18$
16$ -> 18.5$
17$ -> 19$
18$ -> ???

Even at 20$... You were 10$ over minwage and now you're just at 5$...

Fuckers be like:

11$ -> 15$
12$ -> 15$
13$ -> 15$
14$ -> 15$
15$ -> 15$
16$ -> 16$
17$ -> 17$

17$ -> 17$

Not fuckers. ALL companies will work that way. We just had a raise to 11.25$/hour a month ago that's 50¢/hour raise for everyone except people that already made 11.25$. They must be fucking ecstatic at this turn of events.

You need to do more research. This has already taken place in BC, AB, Seattle etc. Your scenario was not the result. In Vancouver I remember reading a resto owner raised salaries 25% to the new minimum, raised his menu prices 20% and advertised no more tipping required. Sales consequently went up.

More baloney. This won't happen overnight but over the course of 2-3 years, the guy making $15/hour today will be making more in 2-3 years. You are also free to ask for a raise no matter what your salary is, if you don't get one and you think you are truly worthy of it and not because the next guy is making $15 then it's up to you to move on.

I don't live in a 3rd world country and it doesn't matter who you are it's 2017, it's Canada and everyone should be paid a living wage and have a minimum standard of living no matter what level of experience or age. There are all sorts of people in society, some are successful, some are not. One in 69 is diagnosed with autism and rising, some people have PPD, some have ASD, some are not go-getters, some aren't as ambitious as others. I can go on and on, what is the point of exploiting these people and not pay them a fair wage. There are people advocating a minimum basic income, see Mark Zuckerberg speech.
