The mechanical aspects of the suspension were way ahead of its era. Triple HD8 SU carburetors (Triple H8 SU were originally used). 12 Volt positive ground. Le Mans filler cap (petrol). Atalanta (in Greek mythology this Goddess was renowned for her swiftness of foot). Atalanta Motors was a very prestigious motor car company before the war (WWII). Postwar, Major Richard G. Shattock (RGS) purchased the company because of its wonderful suspension and frame design, so he could manufacture premium automobiles and race cars. These cars were equipped with Bentley, Aston Martin, Lea Francis, Lincoln 12 cylinder and Jaguar engines. Most Atalantas were built to specification by the new owner which would select which supplied components to use. This is one of the few rare factory works cars. Own one of the five famous racing marques that were powered by Jaguar engines: Atalanta, Cooper, HWM, Lister and Tojeiro.

This vintage race car is in restored condition. The Michelin X tyres , paint on the generator, Brookland screens and WW II helmut (driver used for racing in the 1950's), gearshift knob, along with a few other items, I left untouched. Still has its original alloy body (most Atalantas were fiberglass), frame with unique suspension and Jaguar Racing engine. Motor number for RGS Atalanta Jaguar is F-1632-8. Talked with Jaguar Archives and confirmed that the engine was built in 1953. Highly modified at the time with special valves and fitted with a 16 quart oil sump, racing Warren Pearce intake manifold with triple SU H-8 Sandcast carburetors.

I have corresponded with some of the auction houses and classic car dealers in GB (appx 3 years ago) and they have a general consensus that UKL 852 would be valued at no less tan $1,500,000. and possibly much higher if allowed to go to auction in the UK. The builders son Dr Shattock is currently compiling a coffee table book on RGS Atlantas and my car UKL 852. This is the only alloy bodied (original) one I know in existence. The alloy body is a masterpiece, and has more tube framing than a birdcage Maserati!

Go to the RGS Atalanta web site (run by Dr Alan Shattock, the builders son) rgsatalanta.com to see this original Jaguar Powered Special Works race car! and other post war RGS Atalantas. Somewhere around 15-20 works cars were produced.

Same Owner since 1988.

The RGS Atalanta marque in the last few years is winning prestigious races regularly in the UK with Jaguar and Aston Martin engined models!

Atalanta Motors in its era was the only British car manufacturer that instigated and brought together innovative design features that included fully independent coil spring suspension; adjustable damping front and rear; and made use of lightweight materials such as electron, duralumin and hiduminium for many of its castings. All Atalanta models benefited from a lightweight construction that contributed to delivering excellent performance and coupled with revolutionary road holding (that was reviewed in a 1939 road test as "beyond criticism; rough, almost colonial sections can be treated like main roads. The Atalanta has the tenacious quality of a racing car when cornering.

Will take cash and perhaps interesting exotic sports cars in partial trade.
