in the market for a 'sport' wagon

ok so next year I'll be changing my Nissan Xterra and will be LF a (affordable) sporty wagon...yea I know they a are a dying breed

before I made the general selection of a wagon I was LF at sporty SUV:
older FX50, SQ5 and the likes, but they are still just above my 30ish K budget...so I compromised by going back to wagons

yes I could go the STI route but I dont want to go back to MT, and I could go the sport lux. sedan Q50S/IS350F, but call me crazy I'm a wagon lover
and to bad the Cady CTS-V wagon only comes in RWD and the S4 Avant is getting old

my wants:
somewhat fast (or easy potential to be fast/faster)
fun to drive
reliable (I keep my vehicle a long time)
AWD (we often go to the in-laws are in the Laurentians on private gravel road on a mount)
AT

now from my search I came down to:
BMW 328i Xdrive Touring with M appearance and dynamic handling package
Volvo V60 R-Design (if I can find one...not many on the market and even less V60 Polestar's)
Audi A4 avant S-Line

now I know you can have 'easy install' ad-ons to the A4 and ad more pep to it, how about the 328i, easy and reliable ad-ons available?
from the online reviews the A4 is the less fun drive wagon of the 3, the 328 is getting the better reviews regarding fun driving and the V-60R just under it

of course all 3 are not your average Honda/Toyota/Nissan regarding maintenance cost, but finding a good reliable garage is the key, and getting my hands dirty is going to be worth it

any one with experience on these 3 models? good bad?

thanks!

Love the BMW Touring. I have the diesel version, but the gasser is similar, and both are fun to drive. The diesel's slower though.

So much that i might get myself another Touring...

You know that appart from the R design, the Polestar, you can just go with a T5 awd, polestar tune and make it an R-Design with more oomph... Wouldn't cost ya much either if you're ''smart'' about it.

Find a dank ass T5 Awd you like, follow links below
Heico Sportiv Suspension:http://www.vivaperformance.com/heico-sport-suspension-kit-s60-v60-t5-fwd-awd/
Polestar Brake kit (front only) (for parts and reference only) http://www.vivaperformance.com/polestar-s60-v60-front-brake-conversion-kit/ As you can Wilwood the funk out of it for half the cost or go Porsche BBK (this won't void your warranty/guaranty) Even simpler, You can get an S60R/V70R 03-07 front and back kit for even less.
Trims styling and exterior: http://www.vivaperformance.com/exterior-1/
Piping and friends: http://www.snabb.us/S60-2010-2014_c_73.html (they do quality stuff) again, no warranty voids.

Polestar gives you a dealer tune for 1k$ which is warrantied.
Keep in mind that the larger brakes will require larger wheels.

If you have a bit more budget and are willing to waste your keyboard: http://www.heicosportiv.de/en/models/current-models/v60

6 piston content NSFW http://www.heicosportiv.de/en/models/current-models/s60/brake-systems/produktdetail/816 LOL

+ they often have blowout sales: http://www.heicosportiv.de/sites/al...DF/Angebot Vertrieb/HEICO_Sale_S60_V60_EN.pdf

Now, the difference... T6 vs T5... Both are blast... T5 however has been around and developed since 1992... T6 only came around late 98, dropped in a car in 99 when S80 and XC90 came out. They for sure have been making it up with that bloc.. Yet I've seen craziness come out of T5's.

Perso, both are offered in awd and turbo... I'd go with a T5 and hop up the looks myself instead of paying extra for the trims, mags and someone's decision of brakes.

IMO you can do something really banging with these cars

And, maintenance is quite cheap on the T5.

If you find an R design or a polestar, be sure to put a camber correction kit in the back in order to enjoy your tires for a longer time.

If you has any volvo questions, PM me.

Je suis d'accord @ 100% avec Marek. En plus tu te ramasse avec un char différents de ce qu'on voit à tout les jours.

thank you all for your posts!
and thanks for adding other options!

the Golf SW is, to me, not very pleasant to look at...I have have a problem with the diving/pointy nose, I prefer a blocky/square/toaster look (I LOVE Land rover's design)
even though as a noob I know VW are so 'easily tunable', the car has to be easy on my eyes first

never had a thought on the Alltrack, it could be an option...will look into it

and thank you Marek, your post made perfect sense and was amazingly clear...plus I have a soft spot for Volvo wagons
now I will need to read up on the Volvo forums to check out how folks build their cars, good, somewhat fast, and 'cheap'...although you summed it up pretty good in one post!

by getting a stock T5 I can get a newer model year (the 2015 go for around 31-35K)

here's a question for you Marek:
you mentioned tuning a T5 with a Polestar tune can make it like a R-Design with more oomph
the T6 stock already has 300hp, the R 325hp...the T5 has 250 and the Polestar tune would ad around 25hp
is the T5 a bit more 'stiff/jerky' engine and lighter car/engine, that you notice more the acceleration and other modif. over a (bigger) smoother T6 that has a more natural power band?
or was the 'oomph' you mentioned a more 'physical personal look'

I do like the fact of going my own route, slowly when the funds are made available, and to my own taste...going with better brakes that are 'affordable' is a major plus (Porsche BBK or a S60R/V70R kit)

If you're going F31 for the BMW, just be aware that the N20 isn't the greatest engine ever.

Curious to know more if you did any research on this, I know about it's tunning capabilites and the fact that it sounds like crap, didn't know there were issues with reliability...

To be honest with you, I have tried two identical cars with the two motors.

#1 S80 with 2.5T (Converted to big boy turbo)
#2 S80 with T6 (instead of compound turbo setup it was converted to single big boy turbo)

#1 just constantly felt like a crotch rocket, just asking to push more and more and more. It just want's to give you more all the time and you just want to mash that pedal to the floor like it's an old prostitute that owes you money... And the sound... Sweet mother of Jesus the sound of a properly breathing T5 is just GODLY. The mad man drives it with a large turbo in the Gt35 category with an open wastegate, an ARD tune and beats it non stop...

#2 keep in mind almost half a liter larger motor with one extra cylinder, feels dead at low end and truly comes to life in upper end. You were able to see it very clearly on this motor in N/A form startnig in the 960 back in 1992... Past 4k you were like OMFG this is NOT a grandpa car! Owner of #2 was constantly constantly constantly working on it, it was fun, it was awesome... Bloc threw it's guts up at boost creep joint with spike at 20-21psi...

Both blocs are aluminum, both have H rods, I'd just go with the T5... it's been around boost for so much longer, Volvo has made their whole line-up based on that motor on their transition from RWD to FWD/AWD.

Tuning, tuning tuning... Allow Le Moi, to blow le toi's Mind.

Say you said, ''the tune gives what, 25hp?'' Ok, for sure. You'll be at 275? Let's take it from the top :)

Keep in mind, you can get something... IMO much nicer, mandrel bent in front of you, starting at the DP and garnish with tips of your choice...
I'd hit up Federal with some options, T5 likes it when it's nice and open and it can spit out what it has...

So you already have +26hp and +22ftlb then your choice of tune... you easily get your 300hp on a motor that's primed, tried, tested and true.

these cars want... and want and want and want and want lol.

There's a really chill guy in La Prairie with a saffron wagon (like the c70 above), he has a SERIOUS setup with a T5, PM me if ever you'd like to get in touch with him and know the TRUE meaning of a T5, and believe me, he's gone through numerous blocks, numerous setups, infinite tunes and has a GODLY formula... A/T, AWD, 98 wagon... scares the shit out of you when you let go of the pedal... cause only then you look down and realize how fast you're going.

that 3rd video, against the liter bike... OH PLEASE lol the number of videos that I see on youtube claiming a car beat a liter bike is insane... either the guy was half throttle or it wasn't a liter bike.. period... it's even more clear when he's at WOT inside the car and you can see the speedo going up... in a liter bike, that shit would be SLOW AF... lol even when I was at 290 I could play with the throttle and the numbers still jumped 3 or 4 kms ... could play with it from 290 to 300 with a simple throttle push... that car would look like it,s on a stand still.

btw, not shitting on the car, just on the "facts". it gets on my nerves when ppl think cars can beat liter bikes like it's nothing, the fucking veyron has a hard time! that volvo would be a farce...
