a glimpse into our possible future?
Why not Venezuela: A Populist Basketcase?
Charismatic leader that promised to solve everyone's problems. Thought oil money would solve all his problems. Spend lavishly on the Venezuelan people while it was at an all time high and all was well (hiding the corruption and miss-management) But the people were happy he was delivering what he promise while simultaneously setting up his country for failure.
Instead of diversifying their economy into other sectors they double downed on oil. Practically all domestic manufacturing and agriculture was abandoned for oil, forcing Venezuela practically imported everything it needed during the oil boom.
Then when oil went tits up and Venezuela kept holding their crazy exchange rate and everything went to hell. Insane inflation, impossibility of importing anything into the country (since no one could pay for it)
Fuck the non sense Rebel Media and their right-wing propagandist history lessons.
What's not populist about socialism??
Never going to happen in Canada. Thee is a no way an oil-dependant province would elect a socialist government.
Oh wait!
La bitch avec la casserole?
Aka la bitch qui pourrait avoir une casserole.
What about populism makes it uniquely socialist?
This is intellectually fallacious, I never said populism was uniquely socialist.
and I'm making the point that nothing about populism can be so easily ascribed to a specific political/economic system.
Lol what? Seriously, which part of socialism isn't made to appeal to the masses rather then the top 1%?
Your success is in your own hands, the only thing separating you from the top is hard work. Anyone can make it America! If you work hard and make some sacrifice you too can become rich beyond your dreams.
What part of that isn't meant to appeal to the masses?
I think you're confounding too easily the principles of socialism with populism's attempt to appeal to the masses.
