Recently there have been instances of US CBP asking people to give them the passwords to their phones/social media/emails at border crossings in order to be vetted. There was a memo circulating that DHS is considering asking all chinese nationals to provide their social media handles (voluntarily on a form).
People are beginning to have serious discussions as to how to handle the situtation. You are within your rights to refuse but then you risk being refused entry or detained for hours while they hold on to your phone (presumably they're backing up the data on it so it can be cracked at a later date, just look at how desperate they were to get Apple to comply to with the San Bernandino case)
I think certain corporate tech departments might have to start treating the US the same way they do with less democratic countries like china (i.e you don't travel with any company tech or data into those countries)
Anyone planning on changing their habbits or are you all fine with handing over all this information to uncle sam because you have nothing to hide?
I'm seriously considering traveling with a burner smart phone going forward with minimal social media on it.
