Article: Is It Time To Make Winter Tires Mandatory For Longer?

Here in Detroit, it was snowing a decent amount, someone took out their C6 Corvette and smashed it on I-75. You sir, fkn deserved it.
Same logic applies, if you switched your tires too early and wreck your car, 100% at fault and assume the consequences.

Yeah but if the idiot hits another car or a person than somebody else is paying.
We shouldn't even need a law, if you'r not bright enough to drive carefully when the situation needs it, you shouldn't be on the road.
Unfortunately way to many stupid people out there.

Mandatory winters till April 15 and then mandatory summers or 4 seasons after April 15.
The current law is half assed with only demanding to install winters.
I see a lot of people driving on winters through summer making those tires useless by next winter.
A 5/32 winter tire is scrap, you can still drive on it, but it's garbage when it comes to traction to go or stop.

winter tires should not be mandatory......90% of people i see on the road are driving on cheap chinese "winter" tires! U might as well be driving on summer tire "a corde"

LOL at mandatory summer/4seasons tire.

"Hey, let's get 3 million vehicules for tire change the same day" durka durka

I think the dates are fine, even though they are often far from the reality of our needs.
You would expect that some common sense would kick in when the conditions are not right.

2017.... estiiiii caa pod bonsens lessss dateeessss......faut rallonger caaaaaa

Not really. This video pretty much kill your argument. Chinese winter tire might be noisy and a nightmare to balance but offer a much better grip than any 4 season tire.

The law is kind of retarded but then again, there's a lot of retarded drivers out there.

My 12 years old 60% worn Toyo G02 were far better in winter than my new studded 4 seasons tires. 4 seasons all terrain are ok in the snow so i would expect that with studs they would also be good on ice but thats not reallu the case...they suck big time.

Absolutely... I hate to admit it, but people have become so stupid/incompetent that they need the government to hold their hands when it comes to things like installing winter tires.

I live in Calgary and half the people here don't use winter tires. Any time we get a major snow event, it's almost guaranteed that there will be 300+ accidents in the city, and your 20 minute drive will take an hour. Another common sight is the left lane and middle lane completely clogged with white knuckle drivers that won't go over 40km/h. Another common sight is me blasting by them no fucks given @ 120 in the far right lane, because that's always empty for some reason.

The current dates are fine. Since the law I can recall only one 'storm' before Dec 15th that stuck and nothing after March 15th the past few years. Great majority do it well before then, (Nov 18th for me) and remove them well after March 15th. Last year we had some snow in early April, gone a day later.
