Mattress Shopping...

I'm in the market for a new mattress and have been shopping for the past 2 weeks.

I've been to Matelas Bonheur, Dormez Vouz, Ikea, Sears, etc...I feel the mattresses at Ikea and Sears are not so great in quality and I can't stand the Sales reps at Matelas Bonheur / Dormez Vous who seem like they just want my money. Plus I don't see how laying on a mattress for 3 mins will make such a great decision.

Anybody ever try mattresses from online companies such as Casper / Purple / Leesa / Ghostbed? All of these companies have a 100 day return policy, im thinking I'll try one out and return it if I don't like it.

You have to know what type of mattress you are comfortable sleeping on, never listen to anyone trying to talk you into anything other than the ones you are comfortable sleeping on. Like I pass out and sleep like a baby on anything super soft, can't get comfortable on anything firm, not even if it got the memory foam layer on it. They tell you that firm ones are good for your back, but when you turn 500 times a night because you are not comfortable then do you really give a shit about what supposed to be good for your back? After a week you regret ever listening to any "expert" about it. The secret to a good night sleep is comfort, so don't be shy almost taking a nap while trying them out, I actually passed out on one while my girl was talking to the sales guy.

Most serious mattress store will let you return it if you don't like it. Even sears have that policy.

Stay away from memory foam mattresses. Including tempurpedic. That's all I'm gonna add to this thread.

They eventually lose their firmness and before you know it, it's like sleeping in a hammock providing zero support. Eventually the mattress molds to the shape of your body (even if it does come back to it's original shape as soon as you get off of it) it loses all it's resistance to holding your weight.

I slept like a baby for 6 months on one side, 6 months on the other and another 6 in the middle and then game over. Mattress no longer had any type of support. And due to the type of material, it will always come back to it's original shape (the force required for the foam to hold it's original structure is so small that even if 70% of the material fails, the 30% is enough to push it back to it's original shape). Therefore warranty is utterly useless as it's dependant on permenant shape loss.

I can tell you that in the end, I was able to touch the bottom of the mattress by forcing one index finger through any area on top of the mattress... which was not the case at all when I had purchased it new. I couldn't force my entire hand enough to deform it.

2000$ down the drain. Sold it for 400$ on kijiji. luckily enough.

Oh I only weigh 160 lbs and I'm not the only one that had this issue. 3 friends/family had memory foam (including one tempurpedic) and they all ended up with the same issue.

Just got mine at matelas selection (factory) near papineau street: very happy with it

Hmm I ended up ordering the Casper mattress yesterday. Top layer is latex foam which seems to be a much better material than normal memory foam. I have 100 nights to return though

I've had my Tempurpedic for 4 years now...and is as first day. And funny enough always sleep on the same side. Like I only use half of it.
I'm 158 lbs.
I don't know...as I said very happy with it.
That happy that I bought a second one about two years ago for the chalet. A lot less use of course...

This is a conversation like with some car brands. It will never end. lol.
One guy bought a specific brand and always has problems with it. Because of that he always tells his friends don't buy that brand, is crap. Even if his friends know a few other people with the same brand and they have no issues.

When it was time for my girlfriend to buy a new mattress she got one at costco.ca
She bought a Novaform and its ships in a box. When it arrived we thought no way they shipped the right model boxed looked way too small.
But the mattress is vacuumed packed and once taken out it expands, there's tons of videos of it on YouTube.
I'd recommend it, its a very good mattress and to this day its still firm and we sleep great on it (it's been 2 years).
Read the reviews on Novaform mattresses so you know what you're getting yourself into. Also you don't need a Costco membership to buy them online and Costco has the best return policy if you find you don't like it. Hope this helps good luck with your mattress search.
