Sooooo yup,

I had a brand new ZF E34 steering box in my basement for almost 1o yrs...

Just got rid of it 2 yrs ago.

Tightening may help a bit if it is worn out, but often it will just make it not return to center easily.

The link posted above is for RHD E34s... LHD boxes are on the drivers side of the engine between the brake booster and alternator. Super easy to spot.

Most of the play comes from the steering shaft and u joint. I'd start by adjusting the 32mm nut on the steering shaft. These 2 parts will give you the most play.. You can adjust the box all you wish but if there is wear in the steering system it will be pissing into the wind

For box adjustment you need to be careful, if the box is too worn out youll be SOL. To adjust you need to lift the front wheels off the ground, turn the wheels to the left, loosen the 17mm nut on the box and turn the adjuster clockwise slightly 1/8 turn, re tighten the 17mm, turn wheels to the right and repeat. Check for any binding. And dont over adjust!!!

I can take a photo of the text from the service manual if you wish

Cool! thanks a lot, i'm gonna try it this upcomming weeked and ill give you news. Btw, if it works, do you think by instaling adjustable end links with better sway bar bushigs it's going to help even more?

Nope. Won't make any difference you would be wasting money

My many years with an E34 says do all the front bushings (use 750 thrust bushings if I remember correctly) do your best with adjusting the box and just think of the dead on center feel as part of the experience.
