Combien d'autres légitimes demandes d'immigration seront mises en stand by ?

There are international laws concerning asylum seekers, and none of the Haitians crossing the borders are getting any favors. Canadians just aren't complete assholes about temporarily accomodating them like most other countries. About half of haitian asylum seekers were sent back last year.

You can complain all you want about Trudeau, Coderre and Couillard. All they're doing is banking on the situation for some political spotlight. If you're falling for it, that's your problem. Whether or not they stay won't depend how hard our politicians smile for their cameras.

Asylum seekers for what exactly?

Haiti's earthquake was 7 years ago.

Oh wait, the country is still a shithole so instead of rebuilding it, people are fleeing here to live off social welfare.

Exactly. Which is exactly why most of them are sent back, unless they already have family here.

Everyone is just flipping a lid because we're putting a bed under them while they are being treated by immigration agents.

The thing is even if they're sent back, the whole process takes time and is costly.

They should be kicked back the second they try to cross the border illegally, like any other person would be, instead of being openly welcomed.

That's not exactly how the Canadian immigration and refugee law works.

Canada isn't the asylum-immigration haven you think it is. It's brutally difficult to become a Canadian immigrant. It's not easy to seek asylum here either. We're just making a big deal out of it because our PM and mayor are smiling to the cameras, meanwhile at least half of the asylum seekers will be sent back to were they came from.

Don't waste your time trying to explain to them that there is a well defined (albeit under-resourced) process right now, people want to moan about the others because it supports their political positions.

They should all be sent back to rebuild their country. Honestly my hard working tax money is fed up to pay for people who take advantage of welfare. They should all get together, and rebuild. There is nothing here for them anyways. Ontario is a 15 minute drive. Think I might have to send my money that way.

There's a conspiracy theory that the Haitian government actually wants it's young to move away. Remittances account for 20% of the Haitian GDP, which is an absolutely absurd figure.

Remittance is taxed on the sending end. the Haitian government gets nada. it's a big loss for them.
Youth leaving results in premature aging of population. In a wealthy country like Canada, we have issues with that. What do you think will happen in a poor country when they realize they can't pay out pensions no matter how tiny?

That's not really the point, it's a huge inflow of capital into the country at no cost to the government and no effort. It props up the local economy and hides governmental deficiencies and corruption.
