NASA Unveils Risky Plan to Try and Stop Yellowstone Supervolcano Eruption

They'll never do it.

To begin with the sheer amount of water required to cool a vulcano is mindblowing - they're not cooling a small block V8, it's a fucking vulcano.

Then there the question of drilling into a vulcano. It's not like they can use a Dremel.

Lastly there's no information about the impact that would have.

Assume it works. Assume it actually cools the vulcano, that heat the water takes from it has to go somewhere. Water would simply evaporate into the atmosphere above ~100°C but the amount of steam that would let out could cause an actual mesurable warming of the atmosphere.

And here we're trying to prevent global warming by using spiral bulbs and electric cars...

Will not happen.

We are dommed

Well if there is a volcano there, it's for a reason. What's the next step... moving a mountain ? Humans interfering with nature LOL

Oui.

Did not see it on NASA's site, but enough news agencies talking about it to think that it might be true. Then again it wouldn't be the first time news agencies just copy paste whatever they see somebody else posting before actually looking it up to be sure it's for real. Old school investigating before reporting is dead, now it's just a race to put out whatever you can faster than the other news agency, true or not.

If you like to complain about a link posted by somebody online instead of looking it up yourself while you're online anyway, I have a bridge for you to buy, cash only.

this is the best reference you can come up with?
came expecting 'le salaire de la peur'.
left disappointed.

That whole article sounded like a bad supervilain plan to mess something up and disguise it as saving the world from a volcano... I dunno... like a bad version of a Dr Evil plan in Austin Powers.
