Would a car's exhaust pop more or less with high octane?

I usually gas up at Costco, always 91 octane. This morning I had to fill up at shell and I put their 91 v power. First time I fill up the 124 there.

I find the exhaust pops way more.

I tend to trust Costco's fuel more than the local shell in Ile Perrot since I read recently that a Petro Canada was selling regular fuel for 91.

I'd be surprised if Costco would risk their reputation.

Petro Canada got a slap on the wrists btw...

Anyways now the exhaust pops more. Like way more.

I like it but which fuel would make it pop?

Manual recommandation is 91 fuel for my car but says it will run fine on 87. I refuse to put 87 in a turbo.

Anyone?

Shell V-Power is the best gas around as it contains no shitty Ethanol like all the other brands.

Everytime I fill up with something else, I feel it, car gets worse mileage and feels more sluggish.

Using a 10 percent ethanol blend does not significantly affect a vehicle's fuel economy or horsepower. Although 10 percent ethanol-blended gasoline contains only 97 percent of the energy of pure gasoline, this is partially compensated for by the improved combustion efficiency of the ethanol-gasoline blend that the added ethanol provides. Overall, use of low-blend increases fuel consumption by an average of 2 percent compared with pure gasoline. However, this is only a slight difference when compared with other factors that have a larger impact on fuel economy. For example, driving at 120 km/h rather than 100 km/h increases fuel consumption by an average of 20 percent.

In the case of vehicles that use an 85 percent ethanol blend (high-blend), automakers generally equip these vehicles with larger fuel tanks to offset the fuel's lower energy content. This way, the distance a high-blend vehicle can travel before refuelling can be similar to that of a vehicle using pure gasoline.

this.

i thought octane rating was for volatility, and that higher octane simply meant it burned slower.

with that logic, I would think a lower octane rating would 'pop' more because it's more volatile and burns easier downstream of the exhaust.

The only reason I'd gas up at Shell over others is their lack of ethanol (which burns at a 9:1 air:fuel ratio, instead of gasoline which is 14:1) and in turn seems to give me the best fuel mileage. Ultramar gives me the worse fuel mileage.

Petro 94 > V-Power 91 ???

OP's stock Fiat Abarth has no muffler.

So yeah, great suggestion.

I'd be surprised if FCA sold a stock car without a muffler. How do I tell? Exhaust are my biggest weakness in terms of identifying car parts. Never know if it's a CAT, resonator, muffler...

Well I'll be. Looks like you have a muffler, you must have an early Abarth. The ones I've seen don't have a muffler, looks like this from the factory.

Edit:. Wait op, do you have a 500? Or a 124?
