Bonjour

First google find.

If you're taking the engine apart for a valve job, that crankshaft pulley bolt is a bugger. It's bad. Really bad. In fact...just plain HORRIBLE. I did the math later, and I estimate it took about 500 ft-lbs of torque to get mine out. Took me two days of screwing around. Broke some tools, but luckily all lifetime warranty. When it finally let loose, the bang was so loud it made my ears ring. I thought the tools or the bolt broke, and I was shocked to finally find it loose. I may or may not have sworn a lot at the engineers that designed it.

I see in some Youtube videos some people doing/trying it with various impact drivers, even without the crank pulley tool that fits in the 50mm hex indentation in the pulley. I have some serious doubts any of that would have worked on mine. It was just too darn tight. I saw a few different conversations about it in other forums, and lots of complaining that Honda is crazy. Apparently the factory spec is to tighten it to 130 ft-lbs, AND THEN turn it another quarter turn..!
