Update time. As usual things are moving very slowly

But there has been some progress
Engine Off to TK but he’s jammed up proper and still has not opened it up. I’m trying to get on his good side as much as I can he’s just got a bunch of engines to finish up in the pipeline before he gets to mine.

Tranny and diff went for a rebuild at Vag and came back looking pretty decent. Will still need to work on cleaning the tranny case but otherwise will just sit and wait till car is ready to slap them on.
For reference tranny came off a 1991 318is. It’s the original 5 speed Getrag 250. Diff is a medium case e-30 with a final drive of 3.73. Got an aftermarket LSD from Racing Diffs with street setup.

The actual car went to Hebv Performance in St-Eustache for bodywork and paint but they are also properly jammed up and it’s going to take a while to get it started.

A side note on paint, it is extremely difficult to find a shop or a person willing to do bodywork and paint on a complete car. Simple reason for this is it bogs down too many resources and people at the shop for a very long time. Most shops large or small just prefer to do simple insurance jobs and bang em out quickly instead of working on a project like this that just sinks time and resources. Plus it’s probably easier to deal with matante with her mazda three than a crazy perfectionist, complaining mofo, looking for flawless paint (Allegedly…) . I talked to maybe over a dozen shops, from the most reputable to the smallest one man shows and although some were very nice, not many were able to help at all. So find someone that is passionate about your project and hopefully likes you, pay them well and be patient since paint is a major pita. You can also ask Anthony to offer pipi touches he’s helpful with that (if your painter is into that kinda stuff). If anyone wants a short list of people that do this type of work I’ll be happy to help out.

On that note I came up with the following 4 color options, will probably get 4 swatches made by Hebv and hopefully just pick one out of the four and call it a day.

Dolphin Grey : https://www.colors.rs/colorsearch?tag=QamH1JqbY4&searchtype=rs
Color code: 6410 / Z99 / W07
Grigiocampovolo : https://www.colors.rs/colorsearch?tag=W4IZQoRRji&searchtype=rs
Color code : Y99
Fashion Grey : https://www.colors.rs/colorsearch?tag=S3eI6YZ8Jy&searchtype=rs
Color Code : 61H
China Grey: https://www.colors.rs/colorsearch?tag=l2B3rmRlwv
Color code: W43

Otherwise I’ve now started stressing about engine parts / pistons / rods / bolts / cranks etc…
From what I gather I will need an M44 Crank
Custom pistons
Rods
Possible cams or maybe not
New water pump / timing chain / timing chain guide rail
All the bolts / bearings
Always more shit to buy…
Or maybe we just do a rebuild to spec and deal with it when it blows up? Stay tuned for more
