optical drive

So I need an external optic drive, any recommendation?
For now this would be just to rip CD but as it seems those drive are vanishing on any laptop, should I put more and take the blu ray option?
Long term future (god knows when), I will build a desktop, any way to buy an internal drive and connect it/power it as an external drive easily? (rather than buying an external for nothing)
I have a dead laptop with a DVD burner, is there a way to salvage that and turn in into an external drive?

There are literally dozens of choices from Amazon < 30$.

A normal optical drive (that fits into a PC case) will cost you 20$ and you'll almost never use it. Go for a USB3 version and store it in a drawer when you're not using it.

you can buy an internal drive and a sata usb adapter but it will cost you more.

Buy a usb and call it a day
