do it, do timing chain, good for another 200k
I drove it the other day. I giggledMM wants 1k$ to get it done before taking ownership... a deal if you ask me.
And yes, that would be a cool car indeed, V8, AWD, manual, Wagon. With the timing chain done with receipt for it from a reputable shop, car is worth more $$ down the line also IMHO.

The Internet blow everything out of proportion.
The Internet blow everything out of proportion. 4.2 timing sucks but it's not some new problem that crept up, Porsche IMS will explode the minute you drive it, blah blah blah
Do the timing on the 4.2 and it will be fine. It's not a hard job just labor intensive. The engine itself is very small and compact. Yea fine it's a lump but it sounds good and checks the right boxes
No signs of failure? Please .. you can hear the rattle on start up, you may also start getting misfires that coils/plugs won't solve. Timing over advanced codes or a bank of misfires
Do you know what the biggest problem is? Shops that have no experience touching certain makes and models of cars that they have no working experience on. That's the real plague out there...
- see here, explanation and solution kit : https://www.ecstuning.com/b-assembled-by-ecs-parts/complete-timing-chain-kit-standard/079109229kt1/

Sir. I can hear the keyboard clatter from here. The good part is that it's not a complicated or difficult job.
